Yaesu G-5500 Ground Rail Fault & Better Voltage Drop Fix

Adam’s Yaesu G-5500 stopped working 🙁

Meter lamps came on, but non responsive otherwise.

An open circuit diode was found, D3, so no 0V GND rail existed.
Easy to find using an ordinary DMM.

A better method of eliminating the voltage drop problem across R10 20 ohm 5W resistor (that feeds +12V to the External Control connector) was suggested by Mike, WB8CXO, and implemented. … Read more...

A Yaesu G-5500 (etc)  rotator controller project based on Anthony Good’s popular K3NG rotator controller.

This project features a Teensy 3.2 microcontroller and Nextion Enhanced HMI user interface.

Degrees Symbol for K3NG Rotator Controller Nextion – 2

The K3NG rotator controller is extremely well supported by the author, Anthony Good, K3NG.

Since the last bug report, one issue, easily overlooked by those not entirely familiar with the Nextion display,  has been identified that can easily cause grief,

Along with creating fonts with iso-8859-1 encoding, make sure when setting up your Nextion HMI project in the Nextion Editor, that the character encoding type is also set to iso-8859-1.… Read more...

Degrees Symbol for K3NG Rotator Controller Nextion

This video shows how you can get the degrees symbol ° on the K3NG Rotator Controller’s Nextion touchscreen.
Applies to version rotator controller v20.06.26.02.
 
It’s a simple matter of editing four lines of code in the main .ino file.
 
In the normal world “0xF8” would be the correct way to address the ° symbol, but not with these damn Nextions!

12-bit ADC Resolution for K3NG Rotator Controller

The K3NG Rotator Controller project is aimed towards Arduino Mega 2560 or similar hardware.

Standard ADC resolution on many of the Arduino boards is 10-bit, however the Arduino Due, Zero, and MKR family and Teensy 3.x family have 12-bit ADCs.

So if you’re running this hardware, why not make use of the extra ADC resolution with four easy steps;
