VK4GHZ Thunderbolt display 2020 date error
VK4GHZ Thunderbolt display 2020 date error
My Thunderbolt tells me it's 33 December 2019 today. Wonder if others shows the same?
Tried a power cycle and survey, no change.
Is there a simple fix?

Which 'Thunderbolt display'?VK6XLR wrote:My Thunderbolt tells me it's 33 December 2019 today. Wonder if others shows the same?

One of mine?
When was the last time it displayed the correct date?
I happen to have my Thunderbolt running yesterday and I noticed it was displaying the correct date.
I'll have a look tomorrow when I'm home again.

Yes, it's one of yours Adam with v2.2 installed.
Last correct date would have been prior to New Years day. Hadn't taken much notice until today.

Re: VK4GHZ Thunderbolt display 2020 date error
Arghh!
Thanks for the heads up, Rick.
Come to think of it, it was actually the 31st Dec 2019 I had it running, not yesterday.
Lucky I kept 6 pages worth of hand written notes from July 2017 (WNRO fix) to refer to.
Looks like you will only need to update one of the PICAXE 28X2 programming 'slots'.
Get out your PICAXE programming leads.
I will post the update here when the time comes.
As if I didn't have enough on my plate already.

Re: VK4GHZ Thunderbolt display 2020 date error
Update
I intend to release the fix in three versions.
Choose the version that you are happy with.
1) v2.3ND
"No date"
Consider this as future proof.
Instead of date, this emphasises time mode.
If you're not sure of the date, you can always look at your watch or phone!
2) v2.3RM
"Receiver mode"
Also future proof.
Instead of date, this displays an abbreviated version of the receiver mode that is displayed on page 2.
3) v2.3
Not written yet.
This intends to display the calculated date from Week number and TOW, hopefully without any coding/math errors.
No guarantees with this, and if it fails at any time you will have two other versions to choose from!
Keep watching here for the PICAXE .bas files.

Re: VK4GHZ Thunderbolt display 2020 date error
V2.3
I'll monitor this until the next week rollover (Monday) and see how this goes.
Simple matter of subtracting 1024 from the reported (but incorrect) week number.
Photo taken at 17:34:13 local (UTC +10)
Thunderbolt is reporting this week, which is week #2086 on the GPS calendar, as week # 1062.
Subtracting 1024 in a 10-bit world is the same as adding 1024 (1062+1024=2086), and the date comes out being correct when integrated into the code I developed back in 2017 for the WNRO fix.

Re: VK4GHZ Thunderbolt display 2020 date error
Well done.
A good result, even if unwanted effort.

Re: VK4GHZ Thunderbolt display 2020 date error
Lots more work done on this today.
Date calculation support has now been extended up till the end of 2032.
Basically, as much as I can squeeze into the remaining memory.
I discovered a bug in the code that was used to determine whether it was a leap year, or not.
The code as of yesterday would have failed in March 2024, the next leap year.
This has now been fixed.
As a leap year check, the GPS week number was hard-coded in for the first full week of March.
This was done for each year up to 2032.
eg: This photo was taken at this point in the week (Monday afternoon), but in GPS week # 2721.
This correlates with the GPS calendar.
How the display looks now.
You will need to program your PICAXE 28X2 with the two files below.
#slot0
#slot1
Do not be concerned with the slot numbers, as they are hard-coded in.
Do not tinker with them - just program both of these files.
Order does not matter.
I will upload the complete set to my own website in the next few days, along with detailed instructions on how to program your PICAXE.
This will include the versions that display the abbreviated RX mode or emphasis the time mode instead of the date (as described a few posts back) if you prefer those instead.
Now, to get back to the things I had planned for this week.

Thanks Adam!
Now to find that programming cable that I packed before we moved. It might be easier to make a new one up....

Say good riddance to 2019!
All versions described above along with programming instructions have now been posted.

While you're there, click on the ads.
And then close the new browser tab immediately!
I earn a few cents if you do that.
