Bands pretty quiet on 50 MHz WSPR in Australia at the moment.

Here is a bit of a view of whats been happening in Europe on WSPR on 21st.

No WSPR 50 signals passed today in VK.
Just as a matter of interest, Derek VK6DZ near Albany is running WSPR on 50 MHz all the time when in shack so keep an eye out for Dereks signal, or if you want to try a test, you can send a signal Derek's way and see if his station spots you. Quite handy.

Just FYI for anyone interested, Ross T61AA will be running on WSPR 50 MHz this evening till about 1400 utc. Only a wire antenna I think, but I could get to him OK the past few nights on 10m.
Ross is located at Kabul in MM44om.

Today I had a look at the 24 hour map of 50 MHz WSPR activity. To my surprise I found something like tripple the amount of stations active in the USA and a similar increase in Japan (4!). A few more EU stations, and same with VK. Heres a look.

OK look I have to make a mention of the only VK WSPR spot that there has been in a few months, which occured today!

I read that both have antenna problems, so all in all it was a good effort. And today the actual sporadic E was much poorer than whats its been over the past week.
Good work guys.
There were a few others having a go today, some on RX only some on TXRX (8) -

After a long and dedicated time of trying, Derek VK6DZ near Albany, finally got a few signals though today on a double hop E's path all the way to Wayne VK2XN in Narrabri, northern NSW.

A few WSPR spots in VK on 50 MHz today, good to see. Medium length E skip between PJ & XN. There was also many more DZ JR spots, thats just a sample.
Wayne XN & Derek have there systems up most of the time if anyone is looking for a signal.

People looking for TEP to JG1KGS, but not happening at this stage. Only hint of a path has been between Scott VK4CZ and Brian VK4EK, with Scott decoding Brians signal a few times around 1.30pm down to -21dB.
Fingers crossed the MUF comes up a bit soon. Nice to see all those giving it a go.

As I was on 50 MHz WSPR on Saturday I'll do the report for 50 MHz band.

OK, Saturday saw solar flux levels of 138 and sunspots of 157 (but looking at todays data).

The stations active on 50 MHz WSPR were (18)-

VK1UN/3
VK2KRR, VK2EMA, VK2XN, VK2QW, VK2CBL, VK2DND
NO VK3s active :!:
VK4CZ, VK4CMV, VK4ABW/8
VK5PO, VK5AKK, VK5ZRL
VK6DZ, VK6ZD, VK6OX
VK7AB
VK8AW

Conditions were mostly quiet. Numerous pings were heard by stations in meteor range.
Between approx 0030 and 0230 utc, some backscatter from the north was observed with approx 4 signals seen here on backscatter from north but none really peaking enough to decode, except for Mark VK2EMA, who at this stage I am unsure if he comes in here direct or from northern reflection. I know on 28 MHz Mark comes in here on backscatter, so is possibly the same deal.

I'd suggest unless looking for tropo or EU USA that stations beam toward Darwin, Japan-ish for backscatter testing, if any sporadic E happens to appear, it would probably be seen of the side of antennas anyway, though double hop could be different story. Will see how we go today, have fun :!:

OKiedkie, yesterday (Sunday) had some great fun on 6m WSPR!
Many many meteor pings seen from stations withing range, also tropo and some limited backscattering. A couple snagged a brief TEP window with Japan also.

The stations active for Sunday were (20) -

VK1UN/3
VK2XN, VK2KRR, VK2QW, VK2CBL, VK2XGJ
VK3SMC
VK4EK, VK4MIL, VK4ZBV
VK5ZK, VK5PO, VK5PJ, VK5ZRL
VK6DZ, VK6XLR, VK6ZRY, VK6OX
VK7AB
VK8AW

A number of tropo decodes were had between VK2KRR and VK2QW, VK5ZK and VK5PO.
The day was pretty much dead, until around the grey line in Japan, where a brief stage of about only 10 mins, signals were decoded between VK5PO & JE5FLM; and also VK6XLR & JE5FLM. This was between 0832 & 0842 UTC. Well done guys on catching that brief window. And FYI at the far end JE5FLM was only using a 1/2 wave dipole.
Prior to, during and after this, briefly, it was noted that VK5PO was also able to decode VK2KRR via northern backscatter signals. Time scale for this was from 0818 to 0848 utc. Quite interesting. The decode list of this period shown below.
