G'day all,

Sorry all, it was indeed a mistake on my part

Those stations as listed on 6m were not, they were stations on 40m.
That's what I got for doing too many things at once :?

Again, apologies to all.
Rob.

hi Dale.
the ones for VK5kAA are correct.
have never used WSPR on 40m.

Pleasing to see a big boost in stations running 6m WSPR in the USA recently and good number in European areas also.

Great fun yesterday on 6m, numerous stations around our area having a go at 6m WSPR.
Some good paths showed up, mostly across the Bight.

Note, up in the NE of the map is 9M2CQC. In ZL is ZL2CMC & ZL2DX. This morning I also see TI3/AB4AW Costa Rica.

Some of the 6m WSPR activity from the 2nd December, great to see Greg VK8KMD on from Alice Springs.
Need to entice Gary VK4ABW/8 back on from Darwin......

Well done Leigh! nice to see 6 meter WSPR getting a good following.

Its a great tool to find radio paths when still at very low levels.

Another busy day on 6m WSPR today with lots of people and spots, together with a nice opening to Japan for ~30mins starting around 0600.

JH1GYE was heard by VK2KRR, VK2CBL and VK1JA, and JH1GYE heard VK7FI and VK1JA in return.

This was my longest spot on 6m at 8,046km on 10w using a vertical at ~7m height. Very happy :D

Got a copy of the 6m WSPR map from yesterday. There was potential for 2m E paths with some very intense conditions earlier in the day around mid morning, path lengths were shrinking below 1000 km, down as low as 600 km in some cases with big report numbers in the + dB area. These were mainly between some VK3 stations like VK3ZAZ and VK3SMC and some VK2 stations north of Sydney. Some of the southern NSW and VK1 stations also picked up some sub 1000km paths as did VK2XN up to VK4BLK and maybe also into Bris VK4RF etc. quite short.
The MUF probably didn't quite get up enough in these areas, although I feel there may have been a chance for 2m from east Gippland to SE VK4 for a brief period possibly.
6m Es 16.12.13
6m Es 16.12.13
The majority of the strong short conditions occurred before midday. Interestingly, in the afternoon we saw some MAJOR thunderstorm activity develop right along the ranges and into VK4 area. Unfortunately I didn't get an image of the Lightning map, but it would have looked good with the path map. But interesting to note that the most intense conditions developed before the storms developed.

One of the better WSPR maps I have ever seen on 6m yesterday, which was the day of the Solstice, the furthest southerly travel of the sun for summer (thank god), its now on its way back north.

Izumi JH1GYE did very well in the afternoon, and posted this brief comment on the WSPR pages -
"Today, I've got 69spots on 6m WSPR from VK and ZL.
It was very lucky that the condition lasted over 3hours.
Thank you very much.

These are some of the paths JH1GYE had -

WSPR on 6mtr sure has proved very popular and most helpful over the past few days. I will be building a new antenna just to use on 6mtr WSPR. Not too sure what polarisation is going to be the best? Maybe a dual vertical and horizontal feed?

Hi Rick,

I'd say it depends what your mostly using WSPR for? If its for sporadic E detection, dont think the polarity really matters to much. If it also includes tropo paths, you would need to be same polarisation as others.
I'd say horizontal would be best bet.

Merry Christmas all,

Another great day for wspr spots today. From VK1 I managed spots to every other state in Australia, along with being heard in ZL.

From 0018 - 0032 utc I heard VK5ZRL, VK4TVL, VK4FLR, VK8KMD, VK6OX and VK6JI - nice little brief opening to VK6 while VK5, VK4 and VK8 was in at the same time !

As you can imagine, the WSPR map for the last 24hrs looks crazy....

Looks very much like a RX with the NB enabled.

But it could be any number of things, like AE etc.

Thanks Rob, I really like the way you set out the screen shot with labels etc. (for more interesting screen grabs, have a look at Rob VK5ZRLs web page at http://150.101.101.38/~vk5zrl/radio.html )

I actually always use Noise Blanker on all my radios connected to WSPR without dramas. I never use Noise Reduction (NR), digital processing, as this can cause issues I find.

Johns signal (vk5six) is of severe scattering, meteors, and other reflections, and quite often appears this way in mornings. The one pictured above is fairly intense so I thought I'd get the screen shot to post up.

An email from John K6PZB this morning -

Leigh,
I have put up my halo and am now on 6m (WSPR) from California.
You are probably having way too much fun down under
to hear me but at least I am now trying! I will keep it on
for awhile.

Due to having a houseful of visitors for the last two months, my AR ops have been curtailed somewhat :( , so I set up a very simple station for 6M WSPR to see what was happening on the band. I was even restricted in location of an antenna.

But with a little thought on the subject, I was able to place my 6M magnetic loop antenna in the 'shack' and point it roughly
"North?".
6M Mag Loop on Tripod
6M Mag Loop on Tripod
So far in the last 3 weeks I have seen WSPR stations from VK3/4/5/6 and one JA station. I have not always been able to log into WSPRNet, because my Internet connection has been used 'flat out' by the "freeloaders''!

It is some indication of the signals which are bouncing around off high rise buildings, and what can be heard with simple equipment. The radio is an FT-817ND. I have not transmitted yet because I cannot get the SWR of the loop below 2.5:1
