Darrell... well done on the long path

Now for the Saturday afternoon wrap up, before you all fall asleep.

All in all it was really very quiet on the sporadic E front. Though again numerous pings and other signals were seen by many.

There was a similar amount of stations on the map in the afternoon as the morning, with a few coming and going in the latter part when they gave up in disgust. But its a game of patience, good things come to those who wait they say, although some days nothing comes to those who wait. But at least u can get a few other jobs done when the condx are poor with WSPR running, and check it now n then for an update.

Not many other long distances were achieved. Darrell and Brian held the top distance 1106 km for another 4.5 hours.
At 0528 utc foundation operator John VK2FJRS was the only station to haul in a reception of VK4TVL all day. This punched the max distance out to a respectable 1526 km.
05:28 VK4TVL 50.294441 -22dB 0 QH30jq 5W VK2FJRS QF57 1526 km
Almost inline but a slightly shorter path was Wayne VK2XN who enticed a reception report back from VK4TVL at 1262 km. This was only moments after Johns report.
05:32 VK2XN 50.294575 -19dB 1 QF59ar 20W VK4TVL QH30jq 1262 km

This was the only hint of the E MUF moving up all day. And this was all it gave us. Just enough to tease us and disappear again.

But well done to John VK2FJRS for his VK4TVL reception at 1526 km. The Saturday Max distance award
Wayne punching 20W to VK4TVL for 1262 km, runner up.
Brian VK5BC and Darrell VK2BLS bringing up the rear with their 1106 km spot.

Thanks to all who participated, it was great fun. The more we can get on air the more chance we have of getting some signals through.
See you on 6m WSPR tomorrow.

Here is the afternoon 6 hour map.

6m WSPR Sunday lunch time summary.

Another pretty quiet morning with a couple of brief paths noted. Station numbers down slightly this morning to around 20. Still have some Thailand stations listening, but no one in New Zealand.
6m Sun morning
6m Sun morning
From my perspective here there has not been as many meteor bursts and other signals noted here this morning, possibly due to less operators on and am beaming north all the time due to the westerly wind picking up.

Again there has been no big areas of higher E MUF to support 50 MHz noted. Only brief (sporadic) openings.

We have our leading F call station, John VK2FJRS, working in receive mode only (as per regs), at 1956 utc kicked the day off very early with the first E type distance reception of signal from Rob VK5ZRL at 1178 km.
19:56 VK5ZRL 50.294513 -10 -1 PF95gc 20 VK2FJRS QF57 1178 km.
Then there was nothing till half hour later when Len VK2CBL shot off a signal which was heard by Rob VK5ZRL at 1117 km.
20:34 VK2CBL 50.294526 -23 0 QF56hh 2 VK5ZRL PF95gc 1117 km.

Then again.. a big gap of nothing but local tropo for 2.5 hours, when suddenly Darrell VK2BLS was heard by Phil VK5RM and Rob VK5ZRL at 1127 km.

23:02 VK2BLS 50.294460 -16 -2 QF55kk 5 VK5RM PF95gc 1127 km
23:02 VK2BLS 50.294473 -26 -2 QF55kk 5 VK5ZRL PF95gc 1127 km

And then basically again, just local conditions up until the time this summary was written.

So were looking at VK2FJRS/VK5ZRL on top of the scoreboard this morning with 1178 km
A tie for 2nd with VK2BLS/VK5ZRL & VK2BLS/VK5RM with 1128 km
And up for 3rd VK2CBL/VK5ZRL 1117 km.

Fingers crossed for a bit more propagation assistance during the afternoon. Have fun and good luck :!:

6m WSPR Sunday Arvo summary.

About 15 stations on for the afternoon session.

In summary, there was no E propagated signals all afternoon. The best we got was a number of signals in the 600 km zone from VK3FZ across to the Adelaide area stations of VK5PJ, VK5ACY, VK5AKK and VK5RM.

So im afraid there is nothing else of interest to report this afternoon. Thanks to everyone who came on and tried their luck with the mysterious sporadic E propagation on the 6m band.

Great updates Leigh, you've inspired me to fire up the rig and get WSPR going on 6m again.

I'll be some what handicapped due to only using a vertical, but that 6m LFA is ready to get in the air - just need a pole to keep it off the ground

Thanks Jayson, I just thought I'd do the activity summaries on Sat/Sun as we move into the summer months. Makes it a little more interesting and good to document it as we go along.

As for the vertical, you'll probably be at more disadvantage on the shorter tropo paths if others are horizontal, but I think when E paths are active you will be in with a good chance, and at times the vertical omni could be an Advantage with its ability to TX/RX in all directions rather than just focusing more in one direction. You often hear of people who were worked on 2m Es with omni verticals, so it shouldn't be a drama when the condx are up. Give it a try.

Looks like we had a bit of an opening to North QLD today, pretty impressive for this time of the year I think?

Seemed to happen from 01:00 to 03:40utc and then a couple of spots between 07:58 to 09:10utc by the looks of it.

Damn, and it looks like I just got pipped by VK5AKK for the distance...

Some great sporadic E activity today on 6m WSPR, for a while there seemed it might get to 2m considering how short some paths were closing up to.

Tnx VK4CZ for the map.

Can almost GUARANTEE that these are not 6m paths Dale,

WSPR seems to get the bands confused ,,It happened to me on several occasions also.

I found that it was a terrible letdown because of this problem.

Do another search, FROM: VK5ZRL... you will not see any 6m paths to those station I think.

Undoubably these spots of of Rob VK5ZRL are incorrect but I don't think WSPR is the problem. This normally happens when you have changed band and have not got an interface from your radio to computer and have to manually change the band in WSPR and forgotten hence reports are made to the wrong band.

I had the problem with WSPR, as I ALWAYS used an interface with CI-V.

That would certainly not help though.

I see the problem, looks like he changed to 15m an 40m and didn't update the band CI-V certainly helps. Oh well trap for young players I guess..
