DC multipin connector for FT-736R
DC multipin connector for FT-736R
Can anyone advise me of an equivalent product for FT-736R dc power connectors please ?
And I would prefer to keep the original connectors on the unit, not replace them.

I'm not familiar with 736, but is the connector the same 6-pin as found on an Icom?
WoodTech Electronics might be able to help you out.
I purchased a couple of each from Andy last year.
$5 each.

Or a 4-pin found on Kenwood?
If so, Andy VK4KY at I purchased a couple of each from Andy last year.

Re: DC multipin connector for FT-736R
Don (& Adam),
The connector for the FT 736r is the six pin connector that Adam has pictured, like the Icom.
Of course, you need to be careful with it, compared to the ones wired for the common or garden Icom. The socket on the FT736 has both the +ve and -ve 12 v DC AND the 240 v AC present on it. Pins 3 and 6 carry the AC. Pin 1 carries +12 v; pin 5 is Ground. Pins 2 and 4 are not used on the FT736. Icom plugs have the +ve 12 v on pins 1 and 4, and -ve on 2 and 5, iirc.
Not an issue if you have the 240 v cord disconnected, but if you don't, and the power is on and you are messing with the socket and pigtail on the rear with the male connector on it... Beware!
The detail isn't mentioned in the Ops Manual, but is visible on the accompanying "FT736 Connection Diagram"; bottom left corner...

Re: DC multipin connector for FT-736R
Thanks gents,
I went through the AMP data but could not find an exact copy. There is one which has mechanical polarity guides which are aligned the wrong way.
I will give Andy's business a try.

Don, I'm not sure if Andy owns the business or not, so might be better to contact Andy direct using the email address above.VK8DOD wrote:Thanks gents,

Exchange the obvious "[at]" etc for the real thing.

Don
The 6 pin plug used to be used by Yaesu, Icom and Kenwood but they have now changed to a four pin plug.
Try ebay

Kenwood TS140 & TS680 used them.

Re: DC multipin connector for FT-736R
A couple of years ago I purchased some of these plugs and sockets from my local Jaycar store. (Had to make up extra long leads for an FT857)... They had several varieties of these connectors and sockets, all looking very similar to each other and the first ones I got were the wrong ones but, when I took my sample back, which I obviously should have done at the start, I got the correct ones.
Re: DC multipin connector for FT-736R
Yes, they are just Molex connectors by the looks of things. White nylon types. Any proper Jaycar store should stock them.

Warning
The Jaycar connectors will not do the job. They have different keying and will not fit. I found out the hard way!

Yep, if you had read my post above, you would have seen that this zackery is what happened to me when I bought some without my 'sample' in hand. but when I took the incorrect ones back, and took my sample, I got the correct ones.
That'l learn me
