Logbooks - Here is a REALLY controversal topic!
Logbooks - Here is a REALLY controversal topic!
Does anyone know where I buy a Yaesu logbook, or any other logbook that has a "landscape" format as opposed to the WIA one that has a "portrait" format?
Yep, this old guy still uses a paper log and proud of it!

I got one with my FT2000D but it would be a fairly expensive way of getting another! How about photo copying empty pages? I could scan one for you if you like.

Outrageous!
Next you'll be telling us you still use CW and a straight key!

I've been pondering this myself.VK4WDM wrote:Does anyone know where I buy a Yaesu logbook, or any other logbook that has a "landscape" format as opposed to the WIA one that has a "portrait" format?
Even the ARRL Logbook appears to be portrait format.

RSGB seem to have a landscape log book

I'm coming to the conclusion it be easier to just make my own.
You can generate the page in Word or Excel, and to your own format, and use one of those spiral binding machines to add covers and bind it all together.
Maybe a print/copy shop can just bind it for you at nominal cost, if you roll up with the pages?

Hi Guys,
Can I suggest you contact Vertex Standard in Melbourne (the Yaesu importer). They do have the log books as they provided VK9NA with two to use, just last December. They were a sponsor of the VK9NA 2010 DXpedition. Also, any Yaesu reseller may be able to help you.
They are landscape and they have lots of pages. Seems easier than trying to make some.

Lou, I would use CW a lot more if I could still it hear ok - a problem that nobody seems to be able to fix, but I don't use a straight key, I am not THAT old.
Compton, I have not used the last pages in my current logbook but I find the use of a photocopier technically challenging. The instructions say "place face down here." I don't need a copy of my face the original is scary enough. (attempt at joke ).
Thanks for the tip about Vertex Michael I will give them a call.

Re: Here is a REALLY controversal topic!
I print my own log sheets
do the layout in Word or better still Exel lay it out to your liking and go for broke
I even do a nice binding job on them
For fieldday contests I just print off a few pages, enough to cover the day and put them on a clipboard
cheers

Wayne. I went to MS Excel about 15 years ago and never looked back. If you like 'looking up' a callsign real quick, or doing statistics or just feeding information into graphs etc, it can't be beaten.
I can log a repeat station effortlessly too.... ALT-F, type the callsign whilst he is talking, copy the line and just insert new date/time.
Also, every region i work is colour coded into Excel so when i do a quick scan of the previous year, etc...i can scan it very quick.
It all comes down to whether you prefer to write or type. i can't write at a 100 wpm...but i sure can type it. (thanks to military training).

Re: Here is a REALLY controversal topic!
I use MS Excel to print out blank log sheets to record my mobile QSOs, then I copy the info onto my computer log when i get home. My suggestion is, with your Yaesu logbook as a guide, use a speadsheet program like Excel design your own. You can print your own, and keep them in a folder. This way, you can still stick to the old pen and paper method, and save money in the process. It will certainly be a lot cheaper than buying them.

Wayne drop me a email and I'll mail you a couple free of charge, I have limited amounts in the shop and give them away.VK4WDM wrote:Does anyone know where I buy a Yaesu logbook, or any other logbook that has a "landscape" format as opposed to the WIA one that has a "portrait" format?
