Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
Hi Murray,
ZL3NW, ZL1RS and ZL2TPY all spotted the beacon on 1st Jan. Bob and Kerry again spotted it on the 2nd. ZL2TPY Kerry spotted it on the 15th. This is the latest report according to the Logger.

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
Hi Murray,
Since December 1st, ZL3NW and ZL3ADC have "spotted" the 6m beacon on a couple of occasions, the most recent being from Rod yesterday!
You can check it yourself by selecting "History" on the logger page, then set the parameters for what you want to search for e.g. DX callsign, days to search over etc.

of the film at the 1.21 hour mark the Mast of the beacon
can be seen. I will zoom up and see if I can see the two

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
This week Red Dog came out on DVD in ZL ( release date 28-3-12 ),
So being a tiger for punishment I went and brought it. Not Cheap at
$32.99 at the Warehouse. I enclose three more photo's of my EK and
the third trip to the North West this time to Pannawonica in a 1959 FB
Holden. After two trips in the EK which I drove over from Victorica
to the North West the EK was getting worse for wear. I also enclose
a pic of my Midland AM CB set and a 829b Mobile linear. I also have
about 1/2 hour of Supper 8 movies in the NW.

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
"Red Dog" real name "koko" from the movie of the same name has died in Perth.
In the movie the antenna of VK6RSX can be seen in the background briefly.
See above in the posts a photo of the VK6RSX beacon antenna, in a scene from the movie.

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
If you ask QRZ.COM where that repeater is it will tell you Perth.
Surely by now sumwun could supply lat, long to let other hams know where it is.
It sure ain't at Applecross
Other software takes you to the same address

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
Geoff,
VK6RSX is a BEACON, not a REPEATER.
The West Australian VHF Group is the custodian/Licensee of all beacons in WA, hence the Applecross PO address.
Repeaters in the Karratha/Dampier general area are (I think, will stand corrected ) VK6RWR in Wickham and VK6RWP in Karratha, both on 2m.
Cheers

As good as govt weasel talk.
I don't really care what it is, why not let hams know WHERE it is.
Not hard.

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
Details of the Dampier beacons can be found by going to "http://web.acma.gov.au/pls/radcom/regis ... .main_page" and doing an ACMA Licence Deatils search for VK6RSX. This will show you the location the Beacon is licenced to operate from.
It is not, and should not be, the responsibility of the licencee of the Beacon to ensure every data base in the world has its data correct. If one finds and error in the data base wise thing to do is to advise the provider of data base should that they can correct it.
The VKlogger has every time I have reported VK6RSX plotted to the correct location, so it obviously its database correct.

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
Years ago, the australian government [acma/ptt/doc/sma/pmg or whatever it was art the time] "sold" the entire list of callsigns starting with "VK" to the owners of QRZ.com.
They [aust govt} listed/supplied at that time the licensee address as supplied with the application/current license holder.
Technical details ,,,exact transmiter location etc... were not supplied at the time to qrz.com.

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
I stand corrected.
VK logger has had to incorrect location for VK6RSX. It was showing it as still being on East Intercourse Island some 2 kM from the currently licenced site.
I have corrected the VKLogger Beacon database but I did not convert the ACMA AMG coordinates to MGA so if you look on Google earth it will be out slightly. I make it about 100M out, if the building I assume it is in is correct. I think it is close enough. Someone else can do the conversion is they feel the need for greater accuracy.

The Dampier beacons are located on EII in the old port control building, the old location was on the beach in DampierVK6ZFG wrote:I stand corrected.

I moved them back in 2010, and suspect the location has not been updated on the lic.

Re: Dampier beacons 50 and 144 MHz
It is still on East Intercourse Island as far as I know. The location was updated on the logger when it was re-established at the GPS co-ordinates that Michael provided at the time. As proven many times before, the logger is the most up to date reference for beacons and repeaters.
