The ARRL believes BPL cannot be considered as an option to achieve broadband access for rural and hard-to-serve areas in the US unless its interference issues are addressed. Citing potential BPL emission interference to first responder emergency services in rural areas - which would include those attending to serious medical or injury incidents - the ARRL claims this is a key regulatory issue yet to be addressed by the Federal Communications Commission.
