Logging Software

Post by VK3GDM »

I'm looking for Logging Software recommendations.

I only recently setup the home station and have been enjoying some Dxing on 40m.

I've only ever used a paper log and would like to now start using an electronic log (before my paper log gets too big).

I would be interested in software for Windows and Linux.

Any recommendations??

I'm using Ham Radio Deluxe, it is free and an excellent program which is well supported. It has many features and supports many digital modes. I have been using it for 4 years and have approx 5000 contacts logged. I previously used MixW but consider Ham Radio Deluxe far better. You can start at this URL http://www.hb9drv.ch/

David, welcome to VK Logger forums.
There is a plethora of logging apps, but if you want a great program that is ALSO VHF orientated, then look no further than VQLog.
http://www.vhfdx.net/vqlog.html

I have been using it for a number of year, and as a 6M DXer, it's ability to track and report on grid squares is worth its weight in gold.
(Both text reports and maps can be produced)
You can download it free of charge, and if you like it, registration costs are very modest.

Just about any logging program will handle HF requirements, awards tracking etc, but not many are VHF/UHF orientated like VQLog.

Highly recommended. :D

Also have a look at winlog32

http://www.winlog32.co.uk/

This is another FREE logging program that caters nicely for the VHF/UHF side of things also.
I've been using it for a number of years now, and it is very stable, has very good rig control capabilities.

If you just want a logging program, winlog32 is a good option.
If you want the works and jerks with access to lots of
digi modes like psk etc etc the Ham Radio Deluxe is what I would consider.

Cheers!

I know this might be a little late, but you can't go past Logger32.

If you want general purpose logging then I agree with Mike. you will find Logger32 excellent value for money.

If you are after contesting logging then N1MM is the way to go BUT there are growing contenders......remember the old TR log ??? well, you might find this interesting ---> http://tr4w.qrz.ru/

Hi David,

I have used Logger and Logger 32 since it was a pup and it has grown to a very useful tool in the shack. I use Writelog, N1MM and VKCL for contest logging, then export the ADIF to Logger for a generic log file and uploading to EQsl, it really is horses for courses and as you see from the comments some are very efficient at what they do and others cater for specifics, I like loggers ability to interface to other programmes but the main takeout of logging software is forget any that are not free as the free ones are excellent

Thanks again fellas,

I tried N3FJP's "Amateur Contact Log" for awhile and was very pleased with it.

But, on your advice, I tried Logger32 and I LIKE IT MORE!
I will stick with Logger32 for now. Seems easy to use from startup and is very configurable.
I like the cluster interface.

DM780 ,

Ham Radio Deluxe has a new Digital interface - well an updated one that is very sweet and I must recommend it - After running Logger and later Logger 32 this pair of programmes look like they have the jump on Logger.. Worth your time to check out the digital modes available ...
