I was wondering what brands and models are been used for 1.2GHz Tx.
There has been a poll added to this question above.

What radio do you use?
23 cm gear
Using an IC1271 driving a GS15B watercooled amp. The Mitsubishi module gave up about a year ago. I fitted the new type rearranging the bias connection as there is no middle connection where the old one had one. Instead of the 12 watts I now get 18 watts CW. For people interested a 25 watt IC271A is ideal for building in a VK5EME transverter with no AC psu in it. The rear mounted RF module can be removed and a heat sink installed with new aluninium to cover old holes. With the addition of the ERA-5 board is good to also have a completely self contained tranceiver with A/B vfos RIT and go anywhere with 13.8V dc power. And cheap compared with the alternatives. Second hand 271A $300 to $400, they apear from time to time. Why have an untidy lash up with an FT290 or IC202********

Hi John.
Thank you for that information on conveted rigs. Yes thats right from time to time 271a/290's and 202 do turn up for sale.
As for VK5EME kits I also have as a nightly project (while listening for 2/70cm openings) with some local help and good advice getting together the 1.2GHz 18w linear including the new and improved Mitsubishi RA18H1213G-01 module.
This is why I wanted to moved into 23cm to learn more + we pay for it on our yearly licence fees so why not use it....

Re: What radio do you use?
I am quite keen to try a qrp cw rig with a converter. Anyone know if this is possible? I have in mind something quite curious - a 500mW Rockmite fixed frequency rig. Any ideas?

Re: What radio do you use?
I use a tripler from 432MHz which is an old fashioned idea but works fine for CW and FM. On Rx I have a homebrew convertor.
I use a stack 5 of 1N4148 diodes for the tripler and get maybe 500 mW out for 5 W in at 432.
