EU E2's dropping off

Post by VK4GHZ »

It's interesting to see the perspective of a "local" in the following item that was posted on the UKSMG Announcement page.
Today the Portuguese TV report that the Transmiter : channel E2 48.250.195 mhz LOc.IN61 RPT-1 Valenca Do Douro, Portugal will QRT is service. They QSY RTP-1 to UHF band IV. This means some new locators will be avaible for 6m amateur stations. Hope the others Transmiters that still TXing on E2 channel have this finnal too, soon. 73's

Apparantly quite happy about the fact that local E2 TXs are dropping off.
From our perspective, this is a major loss. I have the Valencia TX in the log many times... and it, along with Madrid, served as the perfect early warnings indicator for that region.

Hi SIXers,
I'm happy to announce, that TV stations Grünten (JN57) 48260,4 kHz and Bantiger (JN36) 48250,0 kHz went QRT. For us in the southern part of DL, West-OE and most of HB9 two major sources of permanent inband video are gone. This opens up a completely new world into those directions which were really hard work in the past.
On the other hand, the 6m community lost two valuable indicators for band openings into Central EU. For that reason, as an alternative, please check 48239,6 (JN39) and 49739,665 (JO70) during next sporadic E season as indicators for possible openings.

Good DX and 73s...

This was rock solid on 239.600, and made a great reference.
These E2 TV TXs were THE perfect beacon.

Dropping like flies.
The shutdown of Bantiger TV transmitter (finally allowing a large portion of Swiss Hams to operate on Six) will be celebrated by HB9BE group using the special call HE9M from November 30th to December 2nd, by using the towers antennas to work on Six QRO. Check the follwing website for schedule and QSL information: http://www.he6m.hb9be.ch/. I guess this long awaited moment will be a boost for the popularity of 6 Meters in HB9! 73 de HB9DRM, thomas

Will have to revise the data base asap.

Thanks for that.
We will have to rely on Middle East and a fudge factor of two hours

Great for the Germans, but not for us on this side of the pond.
Lets see how long it takes for this lot above to drop off the plethora of "TV Lists" that can be found on the net.

If anybody has a TV list from Cycle 23, throw it away... by 2010 it will be completely useless information.

Adam

The very openness of the EU's to flaunt their rules - I, YU, and others openly stating they run 2KW plus - should mean that there will be some signals in the amateur bands we will hear long before they hear us.

Hi folks,

at the moment we have two videos on 49739,6 from OK and HA, one on 49744,8 from HA and one on 49760,4 from OK. These TV's are still active but we dont know when they switch off. At least... something from C-EU to look for :-)
All ch E2 TV's from Central EU went QRT over the last few months. So all entries you may see in different lists from DL, OE and HB9 are out-of-date. Remaining signals come from CT, EA, LA and SM. And of course those from different African countries and Near/Middle-East.

Have a good sporadic E season in your part of the world. Let's hope for a fast and huge growth of solarcycle 24!

RE EU TV vs Ham Power

Post by vk3six/a »

No offense about the logger and interactivity of the ewarns list but thousands of hams are out there who are unaware of this facility and we need to run accurate uptodate listings like we have for the past 2 cycles.
If not we are denying people access to data which would even the odds.
Remember that ON4ANT and co run identical loggers and UKSMG have a flow caption that tells of the dx being posted on OH2AQ.

OH2AQ is still the most posted 50 meg logger followed by the 50 MHZ US gadget.

It carries most accurate EU TV heards when the band favours US east coast.

As for rely on Australian E layer mentality to post accurate TV from overseas, I only trust the kiwis and a few VK's to know if there rigs are in USB or LSB.

And as for spectran being utilised, hardly at all in most cases.

I asked BA yesterday.

CH 0 Wagga and Toowoomba OFF in 2013.

re who will be the shining lights?

There are still a couple of old TOOBE linears in VK4 judging by the tuning and Harlows I heard this past week.
One VK4 was 60 db stronger than the bunch when beaming pacific.
And you could hear the blower noise (maybe it was an aircon).

yes the means to predict paths will have to be more sophisticated.
if we rely on ham beacons we will be about two weeks too late.

Updating listing.

This is near to date

All transmitters in Norway will soon shut down permanently.

JP21 shuts down in August/September 2008, while the rest QRT between March - October 2009.

JO38WF 100 Greipstad 48.2528
JP21OA 120 Gulen 48.2461
JP53EG 140 Melhus 48.2564
JP53EG 110 Melhus 48.2564
JP77MU 110 Steigen 48.2604
JP77MU 140 Steigen 48.2604
KP59BS Varanger 48.2487

SO now we have a situation where there are NO E2 early warning stations out t 13000 km on QTF 320 degrees.

Just the R1 TV stations.

New strategies to work dx like this are required.

Listening thru 1990 produced 1 DX QSO from VK3.

IMO people watching clusters for answers you may as well go HF,

WORKING EU DX is nothing like working E layer.
Without a serious station for weak signal work
People are wasting their time.

Hi there,

in a forum about TV DX I found some useful information: http://forum.mysnip.de/read.php?12097,684481
This is in German, but data shud be self explaining.

We still have two R1 stations in OK and HA which could indicate EU openings.
Recently we had to learn about a pirate TV station from Athens, Greece (KM17/KM18) with a dirty video carrier on 48247,2...8 with huge sidebands. It seems that they are running some power as MS bursts are strong. SV1DH Costas told me that their PTT is chasing them. Looks like slow go as they did not (want to?) find them.

EA4 is still there and CT1 as well. And, there is some Italian transmitter site on ch E2 in JN46. Further Austria has got a low power site on chE2 in JN68 with 2,8W ERP... Looks useless and I have to say that I never hrd anything from this one, 120km away...

Dubai, Syria and Iran are there and will probably remain active for some time on chE2 - some early indicators for you...

Ideas? WSPR (not WSJT!) looks interesting and the reversebeacon.net could be useful too. Have a look at the 6m SDR kits and other SDR receivers in combination with CW skimmer software. Lot's of chances for us sich sixers, eh? Who said: CW sux? I tell you: CW rulez!

I recently bought a 6m SDR RX - DL7AV is adjusting it and I will have a skimmer setup soon.

Do you have the vision carrier frequencies for these remaining E2 TXs?

Hi Adam & ALL,

I usually look at G0CHE's list: http://www.g0che.co.uk/tv_info.php . There are still Norwegian transmitters listed, but all of them are off now. I have no info regarding Austria and Greece is moving 48247,2...48247,8 maybe even more up/down.
