An email to me from VK4BAA Phil,
"I’m trying to fix my old Icom IC-251E.
It has a bit of an issue with tuning properly and I’ve traced the fault to a particular PCB.
Semiconductors of this vintage (40+ years I reckon) are hard to come by, so I was hoping that you might know where to go hunting for a dead 251 which I could cannibalise? They usually die due to their PSU, so this particular PCB would be re-usable……
I’ve tried eBay and general Google searching but nothing so far.
I’ve even joined an Icom user group and asked a few questions – no replies worth bothering with.
Any thoughts old chap?
Cheers,
Phil"

Anyone able to help?
RESTORE AN ICOM IC251E
Re: RESTORE AN ICOM IC251E
Phil,
I can't help with sourcing the bits you need, but just a little heads-up about those rigs. You mention your IC251E has a tuning issue (unspecified). I once had an IC-551 (the 6m version of the 251) whose tuning started behaving very strangely. Sometimes it would even tune all by itself, either up or down. It took me a while to discover the tiny spider who had taken up residence in the opto-chopper! Once evicted, all was back to normal.
