Welcome to the July 23-on-23.

Tuesday July 23rd is the next scheduled 23-on-23 - providing another opportunity to activate your 1,296MHz and other uWave home or portable station capabilities.

Operations will be conducted as follows:
Phone/CW
Start time: 10:00z / 8:00pm AEST / 9:00pm ADST
QRG: 1,296.100MHz

Digital and 2,403MHz
Start time: 11:00z / 9:00pm AEST
23cm QRG: 1,296.225MHz (Mode JT65)
13cm QRG: 2,403.100MHz USB

These events are designed to develop the level of activity on 23cm and above amateur bands.

Please do not hesitate to share with others who you know have capability and see if we can continue to grow the numbers of participating stations.

Activity is not limited to stations within SE VK4, and the growing contingent from VK2. Everyone is very welcome to participate. Please share and promote on other FB pages.

As is often proven, if the participating stations are unaware of your operation, there is a high likelihood that you won’t be worked. [Quite simple and very logical really!]

Please take a moment to share advice of your participation here, and on the night log into VKSpotter [https://vkspotter.com/] ‘2m and above’ page and chat, so that attention to 'exploiting' the path can be achieved.

As is customary [also essential for me as I’m still gainfully employed] Tuesday is a week night, so my ability to participate will be limited – but my ‘good fortune' shouldn’t impact others from participating… so get on and activate 23cm and 13cm!

Good luck to everyone.

Hi Scott,
The Western Sydney Microwave Group will be on air as usual from QF56if and neighbouring squares

I'll make a point of sending some JT65 on 1296 your way :)

We should have 5 or more stations with 23 & 13cm on air if people want to beam our way.

cheers

Tim

Tim,

Fantastic news - if only we could get activity levels in the other major metropolitan centres going! }:[

Ok, I accept that the VK6 and VK7s have existing 23cm activity sessions, but after a number of years we are to hear anything from the VK3s [highest density of 23cm ops in VK] and VK5s trying to generate activity.

My best path south is restricted to AE, and with that the reliable path to Grant VK2MAX at 415km. Beyond that seems too challenging. But I do live in hope of closing the gap to Newcastle or Sydney via AE on 23cm one day.

However, I do face the realism that it may never occur from my current QTH [when plotting it using AirScout the definitive answer soon provides the reality check].

That said, stations to the very east of Brisbane [e.g. Trevor VK4AFL] have a significantly more favorable path, and may be in the best seat to close that gap.

Unfortunately as the next 23-on-23 is a 'school night', diary at this stage will allow me to depart on time [~6pm] so even with the commute I should be available [even if eating dinner in shack].

But teleconferences etc are an every present danger that may quickly curtail that ambition. So my attendance/participation remains 'Tentative'.

I'm looking for my first QSO with the IC-9700.

No usable yagi up for 23cm (actually the issue is the feedline), so vertical for me.

Anyone who'd like to call, I'll be listening on 1296.0 FM, as well as the neglected VK4RMC repeater on 1273.500 (1293.500 in).

Hi Adam,
I don't have 23cm capability in the shack just yet (am planning on ordering an SG Labs transverter in the not-too-distant future) but will alert Wal VK4CBW to try contacting you via VK4RMC 23cm FM on the night. He does have the capability now and is new to the band.

I will be on FM, having arranged to borrow and Alinco hand held. Will put out calls on 1296 FM as well as work the VK4RMC repeater.

As it was a work day... and although my diary was clear, I ended up leaving QRL at 18:30.. then waited 15min for a train, then started the >hour commute... so missed out yet again. Not sure what happened to the other VK4s.

But here's the summary of Qs reported on VKSpotter.com

VK2

Based on the VKSpotter chat, it looks like some of the VK4 contacts were unfortunately not reported. :shh:

Very little 23/23 activity in SE Qld stations on 23 cm apart from myself were VK4DH, VK4MJF & VK4VU all with good signals. There is a new one on 23 cm Nigel VK4UA is at Killarney & I have had a contact him. He is working on a 23 cm beacon with VK4DH building a slot antenna which will be installed on Nigel's hangar at Warwick airfield.

After some station changes I am looking for a SSB check on 3398.100 MHz.

73, Trevor, VK4AFL.

I spent the hour calling and calling with no success on 1296 FM as well as the repeater on 1273.50 FM. For me it was a waste of time. No contacts at all. I don't think I'll do it again on FM. I may end up purchasing a 23cm transverter for the odd field day but that's about it.
Sorry, I did try.

I have floated the idea of 23 on 23 with a mate in VK5 who thinks it is a marvellous idea. He will spread the idea among VK5 proponents of the 23cm band.

Don't know who your mate is, but, aside from this post, I've not heard anything about this. Neither have the other six 23cm operators in our club. However, I'm keen and I'll be on 1296.1MHz tomorrow night at 1000UTC (7:30pm SA local time) to see if anyone is about.

Huh?
The 23-on-23 activity nights started waaaaay back in April 2014, and have been posted about here on most months ever since.
And on Stupidbook, buried amongst the pointless dribble.

It took the VK2s 4 years to 'get with it'.
The VK3's completely ignore 23cm activity.... so much for holding Gippstech down there, huh?

To be honest, I'm not sure how any one could not be aware of 23-on-23 by now.

Great to hear you'll get involved though.

Hi Adam.
You misunderstand. What I mean is that I've not heard from anyone wanting to start it in VK5.
