Has anyone pulled their HM-219 hand microphone apart?
(Stock mic that comes with the IC-9700)

I haven't, but there is obviously some logic in there to eliminate PTT switch bounce.

HM-219 PTT bounce. RX > TX - none!

Compared to an old HM-36:

HM-36 PTT bounce. RX > TX - almost 800uS of contact bounce

The old SM-8 is even grottier.

SM-8 PTT bounce. RX > TX - almost 10mS of contact bounce

I presume that the diode must act as some sort of spike shunt, coupled with the low Q of the shunted 10n capacitor.

Not what I was expecting, but extremely effective!
Could not make the HM-219 PTT bounce at all.

All the newer Icom hand microphones & rigs power their electret mic insert via mic socket pin 1 (MICI) which has DC volts on it.
In the old days, the microphone derived its power from mic socket pin 2 (+8V).

I think there might be more "smarts" than that shown in that circuit diagram.

I don't have access to the HM-219 but other mikes in the series also have similar PTT switching - which in reality is just a switched line to earth. Maybe the smarts are associated with the input circuit board in the rig?

Page 73 of the service manual shows Q491-Q493 feeding the PTT into the Front CPU IC501

That circuit is in the bottom left hand corner of the Display Unit circuit diagram on page 90.

Grounding D491 through the PTT switches Q491 "off", which makes FSEND go high on the CPU.

Maybe the time constants involved are better than previous rigs????? Tracing R494 around the circuit diagram (almost a full 360 degrees) ends up at the 5 volt line - nothing special.

No, those screen shots above is the actual PTT switch contact from the mic (with a pull-up resistor to 3V3).
In other words, straight out of the mic.

Added the Share Pictures function.
Added a Set mode item to detect the microphone PTT while transmitting using other than the microphone PTT.

Setting up 9700 for 1296 EME and discovered that there is no Rx out.
Over many years of EME, the external LNA is subject to damage, with whatever
sequencers or relays are used.

My goal is separate Rx out. Has anyone done this? Would appear that cutting
trace between between R51 and c311 and running rg 174 to outside sma
would do the job.

Has anyone tried this? Alternatives?

About the only changes I can find in the newest revision IC-9700 CI-V reference manual are below:

Home Channel Beep, PTT Port Function, RX Picture Indicator

The addition of "Only main band".
Unknown if the actual control function has changed, or just fixing the wording to properly reflect actual control function.
I'm guessing the later.


For some reason, Icom still neglect being able to fire off a CW memory keyer.
I've been expecting CMD 28 01, the next related logical command after 28 00.
You can do this on the GUI, but not via CI-V.

This looks like a much better method of 49.152 MHz injection locking.

No soldering whatsoever required, and potentially less dramas with any future warranty claim.

I was contemplating using the minikits version with bluetac to hold it in place rather than soldering it.

It's not on Leo's web site, so not sure if it can be purchased yet?

i have look the SWR on the Leo Bodnar board input and i seem quite high
~1db return loos ,not sure how this will affect the PLL buffer stage , usually i try to avoid reflection on reference

sot same result from my spare board ,result seem but better if reuse original radio mico-coax
probably due to loos on it -)

Changes from Version 1.20

Fixed the problem where the scan might not stop, even when the transceiver receives a signal.

With the previous firmware, there was a delay in sounding the standby beep when the transceiver communicated with other manufacturers' DV equipment*. With the latest firmware, the transceiver sounds the standby beep with no delay, even when the transceiver communicates with other manufacturers' DV equipment.
*It does not occur when directly communicating with transceivers and/or application software made by Icom or Kenwood.

To update the firmware

Thoroughly read 13. UPDATING THE FIRMWARE of the ADVANCED MANUAL and follow the instructions displayed on the IC-9700 LCD screen.

This update initializes the transceiver's settings when updating from a firmware earlier than version 1.20. Save your current settings before updating the firmware, and then write it back to keep the previous setting on the updated firmware.
The firmware will be updated to the following versions.
Main CPU: 1.21
Sub CPU: 1.00
Front CPU: 1.00
FPGA Program: 1.06
FPGA Data: 1.00
DV DSP: 1.05

v1.21 installed!
