It didn't take long for the first 'unboxing' video to come out.

I don't get the whole 'unboxing video' thing, but here it is...

Would have been “unfortunate” if it hadn’t lit up when switched on Hi Hi

Looking forward to the release here

Nic,

Its called dumbing down for the JA novice and USA General operators!

Otherwise they would be plugging their 70cm antennas into the 2 metre socket and blowing the 2 mx final chip!

Cheers

From the Strictly Ham Faceplant intamawebs.
Strictly Ham wrote: Icom IC-9700 Update.............................

News from Icom Australia today in relation to the availability of the Icom IC-9700 has been announced to Australian dealers

The long awaited IC-9700 2/70/23cm radio is expected in Australia around the end of April. Those who have had their heart set on a early arrival will, I am sorry to say, have to wait just that little bit longer.

If I hear any further updates as to the release date and price I will inform everyone here.

Sadly QST Feb 2019 has no good news for the new Icom
or the Yaesu.
It still carries the disclaimer not to be sold before fcc approval.
Trumped.
no wages
thus no fcc workers to approve it.
maybe in the Ides of March we will have a much anticipated price
to appease the lurkers, watchers and FOMOs!
Hope its as good as it sounds.
No doubt it will be molested prodded poked and modified by months end
and the prices like the 991 991a and 901s will drop.
I never enter the first service station on sight in a town or city!

Absolutely correct Steve!

I suspect that the "Trump effect" may have some bearing on the delay into other countries other than USA - as is seems the FCC approval for Amateur gear is almost always now the de-facto standard for other country approvals, outside of Japan.

Cheers

More than an IC-7300 but less than the IC-9100.

Anything less will be a pleasant surprise. :D
Pleasantly surprised!
Was expecting a street price much closer to $3k. :D

I'm guessing that the price will follow the usual trend of dropping a bit in due course as well.

If it settles on $2295 it'll be quite attractive.

I can't recall what the initial pricing was of the IC7300, does anyone remember?

With the lower than expected IC-9700 introductory price, it goes without saying ( ! ), that the re-sale value of the old IC-910 has also fallen.
If, in two years time, a second hand IC-9700 is fetching ~ $1800 (aim for 2/3rd new price), then a fully optioned IC-910 will be lucky to get $900 ish.
With the fading LCDs, they are a ticking time bomb anyway. :om:
I'm glad I got rid of mine 12 months ago.

Sawadee khrup.

Time to grab a stubby of Chang or Singha, and wonder what the hell this guy is saying.
Is there something a little weird about watching a Thai unboxing video?

And here, he compares the IC-275 with the IC-9700.

Just had a phone call from someone that has a new 9700 and is disappointed to find that the 10Mhz ref input isn't actually a 10Mhz reference at all.
Rather its a 10Mhz input to automatically, after user input, to move the internal ref. onto frequency.
Indications are that its stability after being "adjusted" is insufficient for modern digital operation.

Anyone else found this?
