13cm across Bass Strait - 7th January 2019

Post by VK7HH »

VK7HH will be active operating from the following location: QE38KV - Mt George near George Town on Monday 7th of Jan - 3-4pm onwards planned at this stage.

I'll be operating with Peter VK7PD and possibly another amateur (yet to be confirmed). We will be active on 432, 1296, 2.4 and 3.4GHz.

The main purpose is to test out and try a QSO across Bass Strait on 2.4GHz using QRP. We will have 2W into a 24dBi grid.

Good chance to test out that gear prior to the field day on the following weekend!

We will call on 432.100MHz looking for stations. If we can get a few stations portable and active that would be great!

Hepburn looks OK at this stage

Hayden,

I can't help on Monday, but will definitely be looking for you during the FD next weekend from VK3ER/p. QF22DM.

We run 120 watts to a 1.8 metre dish on 2403.150 and 30 watts to a 1.8 metre dish on 3398.150. (note the frequency of choice is now below 3400)

Give us a call on 144.150 or 432.150 for some skeds during the weekend.

Cheers

Peter VK3QI (Microwave op for VK3ER/p)

Hi Peter,
Thanks. Won't be portable in same location for the FD weekend, but will be on 2m, 70cm and 23cm from my remote station in the south.

Hi Ian,
That's great. Will you have 70cm and/or 23cm too?

Will post any other details here as they come to hand.

We did it!

Thanks everyone who cam out. Hayden worked a boatload more than i did, so im sure he has a big smile tonight. Was great to complete on 70cm and 1296 even if signals aren't that strong. Just goes to show these little SG Labs transverters perform very well

whos ready for the FD?

Thanks

Sadly nothing heard at my end other than VK3PY (S9) and VK3LPL. I had 70cm and 23cm running on different radios in case I heard anything, whilst getting back to work (from home) after the break.

In any case have a look at the Hepburn chart for this coming weekend... Likely to make the VK7 path for the Field Day very interesting. Planning to be /P on Saturday afternoon (largely QRP) and Home station on Sunday (with a few more watts available).

Regards
Bernard
