low noise solar inverters

Post by VK4WTN »

hi all, My Aurora solar inverter has failed and needs replacing. The Aurora creates no noise issues but its hard to source another one. Any ideas on which of the modern inverters are the most rfi friendly. Would hate to replace the aurora with another brand and find I have RF noise problems.

Hi Wayne,

The SMA inverter at my previous qth, and the fronius inverter at my current qth are both rfi quiet.

They do cost a little more, but well worth it.

Hi Wayne,
the fronius brand of inverter is also RF quiet, I had a SMA before that and it was RF quiet. Now the Bigger fronius inverters do have fans in them so if it is mounted on a house take that into account.

thanks for the replies Jayson and Peter, sounds like the Frontius might be the way to go. The unit is mounted in the house not that far from the radios so should the fan noise be a big issue Peter?

+1 for Fronius. I have one and it's extremely quiet... don't even know it's there. IMHO one of the best on the market.

And yes... Fronius is Austrian.. not German...

Hi Wayne,
once the new inverter is up and running, can you please update this thread with its noise performance as it may help others in the future when they need to choose a new inverter.

for sure Peter, it should be installed this week. The Aurora that I had (the ABB is the same unit) produced zero noise and is mounted 2M from the radios.

I am looking at installing a system shortly. When I googled the ABB Aurora I found some hideous stories about how unreliable they are, and recommending the Fronius. Any comments?

Cheers

Have had a Fronius 5Kw 3 phase inverter for two years now. Don't know its there. Incredibly quiet/clean system.
