23-on-23+MAD - Sunday September 23, 2018
This coming Sunday, Sept 23rd, is the next 23-on-23+MAD.
It's now become common practice, that where the 23rd falls on a weekend the events operating time are shifted from the evening to a day-time activation event. This has also allowed operators to take full advantage of the time, and head for the hills to trial their /P stations, investigate new paths and hopefully complete a contact with a new station (or more) that they wouldn't normally from their home station. It also provides an opportunity to activate other uWave bands.
A suggested schedule [edit to hopefully make it stand out....] START TIME: 12:00pm (02:00z) - 04:00pm (06:00z)
Liaison - need to agree on this
147.000 Repeater or the 146.650 networked repeater system
40m - 7.150MHz (is that still the recommended QRG?)
Mobile/cell phone
VKLogger iChat '23&Above'
As a number of 23cm Plus operators choose not to participate in the VKLogger forum, please let those who may be interested know by taking a moment to share the plans with them in the thread below
Enjoy the activation!

Planning to be at Howells Knob QG63JF running 1296, 2.4, 5.7 and 10Ghz. (10Ghz will only be used if I can get a fall call Licensee with me)
I still haven't heard anything about a starting time but happy with anything between 10am and 2pm. I prefer not to be up on the mountains too late into the afternoon.

Very few 23/13/9 cm home stations were on but a good effort by the portable stations. Wx & microwave conditions were excellent worked on 23 cm VK4ADM, VK4EMS, VK4LHD/p, VK4KAY, VK4IF/p & VK4OE/p. 9 cm VK4KAY, VK4IF/p & VK4OE/p. Every signal was strong with only one below S9 & tnx for the good contacts.

Would love to be part of this activity.
Over here if its not a contest/field day or an arranged contact you'd be calling for a long time before you heard a reply!
Be interested in the sort of distances involved. When Ive taken out 10 and 5.7 over here Ive been working 300km or so path.

Re: 23-on-23+MAD - Sunday September 23, 2018
Roger
Unfortunately the distances achieved during this months MAD don't resemble the 300km you referred too. Due to the topography of SE VK4 Its very difficult to get anything much over 200km.
If you search the reported QSOs [map of reported QSOs below], the longest one achieved during the activation event was just shy of 162km - VK4IF/P to VK4LHD/P. Nothing record breaking, but fun all the same
Cheers

Re: 23-on-23+MAD - Sunday September 23, 2018
Thanks Scott.
The 300Km is a result of living in a long thin country
It would be nice to have the numbers you have to work.
It's building over here and we may have 6-7 10G stations on over the next contest so Im keeping my fingers crossed.
If one of the 23-on-23 days looks good over this way please let me know, Ill be looking from this way as well.
I have a reasonable 23cm portable station, 400w 60 element Yagi with G4DDK preamp, and if it looked good Id be off to the West Coast.
That goes for any of the states not just the VK4's
Cheers
