I'd be surprised if it is released before Dayton Hamvention.

And it is a bit strange that there is no further word on the IC9700 from Icom Japan, Head Office. You would think that they would be the first to release info, or at least have something on their website about pricing if it has been announced.

Either way we just have to wait.

G'day Kev, thanks for the update.

It'll be a true update for the IC-910H (inc 23cm) for which many of us have been longing for. It'll be interesting to see how the SDR side of it works, if the IC-7300 platform is anything to go by. As Adam has mentioned, there will be a flood of 910H's to hit the market over the next couple of years if the IC-9700 proves its worth.

But, the release of the 9700 will free up a lot of 910H's (inc 23cm modules) to the lower price point end of the market, which I'm hoping will enable more stations to get up on 23cm FM repeaters and/or 1296SSB.

Up until a couple of years ago, I had a 2008 build IC-910H (inc 23) rig and replaced it with an IC-9100, which wasn't a true replacement... bit like a shack in a box a bit like the TS-2000X and their shortcomings, such like the global TX pwr settings in the IC-9100... from what I've read lately, the TX settings in the 9700 will be per band...

I'm hoping that the release of the 9700 will trigger a bit of new activity on 23cmFM / 1296SSB very soon. To date, 1296 and even 432 is very much by appointment these days, but hopefully with a new toy on the market, this might change.

The low down, ICOM said that they are aiming for a release date in 2018 (Japan may get it in December 2018) with an approx price of 200,000 YEN - price to be confirmed in December.

the New Zealand price for the ICOM IC9700 is around about NZ $2750 +GST = NZ $3162.50 so the UK price > British pound £1795.95 is = AU $3142.30 or = NZ $3349.62 so that sounds about right what Adam said for the Price

Or is it the official word from a hacker? I am skeptical. The writing in the title in the tab of that page still mentions Icoms deal with Iridium Communications, their previous News release. The writing on the page mentions 50 watt transceiver where all brochures previously call it a 100W on 144MHz, 75W on 430MHz and 10W on 1200MHz. I would have thought Icom would have been a bit more professional than that. Then again the web designer could be full of Christmas cheer

Until I see it mentioned by my favorite Ham Store, I will remain skeptical. I hope I am wrong.

50W is for the JA market only. Everywhere else is 100W.

Rumor has it that stores/agents were to get their allocation numbers for the initial batch of IC9700's early this month. As in, they would be advised how many units they would get from the first shipment batch.

Of course, it was just a rumor but if it's on the internet it must be true.... note the italics/sarcasm!

now if you look closely at the video on the link posted by Jayson, at two minutes in the RF power setting shows it is set to be a certain level on 1200 MHz, so from this quick glimpse it is implying that power setting is per band in use and not a global setting.. wish, hope, pray
Confirmed.

Some more information on the IC-9700.

Icom has made available both the English basic and advanced manuals, along with the CS-9700 Programming Software instructions.

Plus, there is also the CS-9700 programming software V1.01 and USB Driver V1.20 and associated manuals :)

Below is a copy of an email from Adam, VA7OJ/AB4OJ from the IC-9700 Groups-IO;

****
The following IC-9700 user documentation in English is now available on the Icom Japan Global website:

http://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/manual/ Search on IC-9700

and also on my IC-9700 page: http://www.ab4oj.com/icom/ic9700/main.html
• IC-9700 Basic User Manual
• IC-9700 Advanced User Manual
• CS-9700 Programming Software Instructions
In addition, the following software is now downloadable:

Hi,

Now that a full English version of the manual is available, the issue of power level setting should be able to be resolved ????

The relevant page in the manual is 3-10, right hand side.

It says in the preamble: " The Transmit Power function limits the output power to the preset level for each band"

That statement is clearly ambiguous - so the question is still to be resolved.

****************

One thing is for certain, only one SEND LINE (pin 3 on the ACC socket) and no V or U send as the 706/7000 had. see 13-1.

***************

Has anyone been able to find a contradictory view in the manual and/or is the publicity blurb currently appearing on the Icom USA site just surmised from the earlier videos?

"Band Management
In addition to band specific memory channels, the IC-9700 allows band specific receiver and transmitter settings. For transmit, users can make adjustments to RF power, TX power Limit, Limit Power, and TX Delay by band. "

*****************************

Perhaps one of the JA/Asian operators who already has access to the rig can confirm. I asked the Icom Rep at the EMDRC hamfest this morning about the statement, but he clearly had no idea what I was talking about!

Cheers

Further information on this question.

Looking at section 8, SET CONNECTOR in particular, 8-3, 8-11 and 8-12.

You can set the TX delay by band specific (10 milliseconds only)

You can set the external preamp output on or off by band specific setting

You can set the ACC SEND output to the low power setting by band specific

This is "good" but it still doesn't clarify if the low power setting is global or not.

*************************

At least there is the possibility of using the external preamp output information to construct an external unit for control of individual external linears - something Adam has mentioned previously. Each of the three output coaxial sockets will have embedded a DC voltage for that particular preamplifier.

Cheers
