23 on 23 Plus MAD - Sat July 23rd 2016

Post by VK4CZ »

Saturday July 23rd will see the next 23-on-23 MAD for 2016.

I'm getting in early so hopefully a more few stations will be able to plan their /P operations well ahead of time. And with this weekend's Winter VHF/UHF Field Day potentially a wash out, it may provide an opportunity to reduce the $/QSO rate of the uWave gear

It's now become common practice, that where the 23rd falls on a weekend the events operating time are shifted from the evening to a day-time activation event. This has also allowed operators to take full advantage of the time, and head for the hills to trial their /P stations, investigate new paths and hopefully complete a contact with a new station (or more) that they wouldn't normally from their home station. It also provides an opportunity to activate other uWave bands. :om3:

A suggested schedule:
2:00pm (04:00z) - 03:00pm (05:00z) 23cm SSB/CW only
3:00pm (05:00z) - 5:00pm (07:00z) 13cm and other uWave bands

Liaison -
147.000 Repeater (if the RDRC would again be happy with that)
40m - 7.150MHz (is that still the recommended QRG?)
Mobile/cell phone
VKLogger iChat '23&Above'

As a number of 23cm Plus operators do not participate in the VKLogger forum, please let those who may be interested know by taking a moment to share the plans with them.

However to allow others to plan their participation, could you please advise your interest, availability and any suggested enhancements to the schedule in this thread? :!:

Hi all
New to Microwave and looking for some guidance and experience.
Happy to participate, or tag along from my Brisbane QTH.
I only just completed my first 13cm transceiver, biased on a Tait 196.
However that is FM only at this stage and low power.
Can someone indicate if FM could be used?

Stefan,

Absolutely you can use FM. The more people we get on uWaves the better.

There is also the VHF/UHF field day this weekend.

You are welcome to join me if I go portable - yet to be decided -. I normally go to Clear Mountain lookout.

Email me at VK4KJJ at WIA.ORG.AU

VK4ALF, 4BOO, 7RR/p4 and myself are going to Howells Knob for this activation with 1.2G thru 10G. I will take 24G gear as well for Kevin and Peter if they are going to be around. If Peter still has the 47G equipment I would be happy to take that as well.

Ok so it looks like I have lost Howells Knob for this event. Have absolutely no idea as to where I'm going to setup this time. The top of Buderim is only good for due South and no where near as high as Howells Knob so I will be down in the mud on this one or I just might sit it out. I can't afford to go driving miles off the beaten track looking for a hill top.

Robert, lets see who else commits, and then you can decide on /P location.... Buderim would be more than OK if no stations too far west are running. It's always good to have a different /P location to run.

Scott

Unable to commit at this stage but will keep it in mind. There are a number of major things scheduled to happen next month so may not have the opportunity to go portable, but if it happens then I will probably be heading south east or south west from here. I will have to run up all the gear properly beforehand as that didn't happen before the WFD yesterday and some issues were evident.

I'm definitely in, will try and have more than 23cms on the day. Location, I'd prefer something South of Howell's Knob, but, may head to Couran for something different.

At this stage, 23, 13, 9, 6, 3, 1.25 cms and Doug's loaner 47Ghz setup.
Cheers,
Peter

Bump...

Time to start locking in your plans.
Finalise your planned /P QTH.
Confirm the bands you'll activate.
And share that info with the Group.

And don't forget to take a camera.

For me I still have not decided on a location yet as I have lost Howells Knob but it could well be on top of Buderim where I go portable for the week day night time portable.
I will be working under VK4WIS as a club group with a hope of getting a few more people together.
Bands will be 1296, 2.4G, 3.4G, 5.7G and 10Ghz.
I really need to find a more Non public area as I need to use the generator as the batteries will not last running all the extra gear and the generator is a tad noisy.
Where ever I end up it will be a last second decision so watch this space.

We're just a week out, and I'm trying to finalise my plans for a /P site to activate. :om:

As with passed 23-on-23+MAD I'm more than happy to fill both of the fuel tanks in my vehicle and push out a bit to provide a little more distance to the stations active around Brisbane and the surrounding Coasts.

I started running some profiles this evening from a couple of QTH's in the SW Corner of the Scenic Rim which may provide a good path back toward the coast depending on other station locations, and will finalise this over the weekend when I hope to have some more 'shack' time. But to achieve activation of any one of these sites, I need to be focused on the afternoon activation to enable travel so that I can use the morning to pack the vehicle.

As such I am still aiming for activation during the suggested 2pm - 5pm time slot (I have seen nothing to the contrary shared here) with 1.2, 2.4 and 10GHz (I can g'tee that I'll have no time to complete the 3.4GHz before then). :om3:

I'm aware that there are discussions around activating some of the higher bands (24 and 47GHz) earlier in the day to maximise the dew point potential of paths, but am keen to get a final confirmation of the level of activity for the suggested time slot will be, so I can commit to a /P QTH and provide extend the path distance. :?:

We are still go for the Knob with all bands from 1296 thru to 47G and if the consenus is for 2PM that's fine with us.

We also have 4WS joining the group
