TEFLON Coated wire

Post by VK4UH »

Hi all

We are looking for a source of a small amount of 14-16G Teflon-coated solid copper wire for a Balun construction club project.

Any offers or info about any possible suppliers or sources would be appreciated

G'day Kevin,

Probably have to make your own Teflon coated wire. Worked in the defense industry and you buy Teflon tubing and slide over your wire. I made combiner torids for 1.5Kw TX. Wound Kapton tape over cores first then the insulated wire.
Gee you can be lucky. Ebay has plenty of Teflon tubing that is used in 3D printers and Kapton tape is available from Altronics.
Good Luck

KJ

Just did a quick search on EvilBay.. there are a few suppliers advertising ... silver plated multi-strand 16awg, 18awg, 20awg... buy by the metre!

If not 'urgent' might be an option.

Also search for PTFE coated wire , which is Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene) by another name.

You could contact these people;

There is an 18awg solid core in the table.

Check out Hubersuner radox 100 or 125.
It is common to use this in panelbuilding.
I use this stuf for antennas and inside baluns.

Another option is to look at irrigation control wire, not sure if its Teflon but it can be hard to strip.

Comes in many options including solid core, even Bunnings stock it.
