2016 Winter VHF/UHF Field Day

Post by VK4ADC »

The 2016 Winter FD is coming up on 18/19 June and the WIA page for it is here : http://www.wia.org.au/members/contests/vhfuhf/
There are no specific rules shown for the Winter event as yet but they are probably similar to the 2016 Summer FD, dates excepted.

Unfortunately I won't be participating this year due to other commitments even though the gear seems about ready to go. The 3400 MHz transverter is ready on 3398.150 given the NBN impetus and forward decline of 3400.150 MHz. Roll on Spring FD for me.

Subject to Wx, the VK3KQ team of two operators will be operating from Mclaughlans Lookout in the Wombat State Forest QF22DM for 24hours - all bands from 6m to 24GHz.

We have 4.6KVA generator power budget to work with - and half of that will be dedicated just to keeping warm :D

This will the first outing for our new 24GHz kit and we are looking forward to working as many as possible.

Don't forget, the weekend rental on that 2.4KVa generator is one bottle of Drambuie!

CU in the contest.

Sounds quite fair and reasonable Peter. Now, I just need to keep Damian away from it

Damien & Ralph,

I will try to get my creaky bones into the field for some of the time. Which day depends on WX and enthusiasm. I will provide some uwave contacts to you guys and anyone else within earshot. I will take 2m and 70cm too. Not sure about 23cm. Failing that, I can operate 6m to 23cm from home.

Peter (VK3QI). Forget the Drambuie. When in Rome, drink what the Pope drinks. Have a pint of Crème de Menthe (with due respect to Billy Connolly).

Thanks Chas - look forward to the contacts.

Just heard that Damo and I will need to be on our best behaviour as we are expecting a special guest operator on Saturday and Sunday: Jack VK3WWW (from the VK3ER team) will be joining us as third op. I just hope he remembers which callsign to use !

We should have no problem working you in Rutherglen, Theo - we can work stations in your neck of the woods most of the time. Listen out for us VK3KQ/p in QF22DM - we'll be the ones with chattering teeth in sub zero temperatures :wtf: .

And if you're friends with my old mate Gary VK2VU in Corowa, can you see if you can get him to come up on the bands as well?

Warm regards,
Ralph VK3LL

No problem at all Ralph. Yes I know Gary (VK2VU) very well and give him a buzz. Hopefully he's not working that weekend too. ;) I'll swing my beams your way for a while no problem.
I remember you guys going up to that spot before too. Not as cold here but not far off it LOL. But you'll get the wind,,,uh-oh :(
I'm looking forward to it.

I won't be going portable due to local factors but have decided to operate from the home QTH (QG62LG51) on Saturday from midday to 8PM (or thereabouts), regardless of the weather, and hopeful of enough activity in SE Q'ld and Northern NSW to keep me occupied. Maybe some more Es like the unexpected 6M opening to ZL yesterday might happen.

I should be go for 6M to 9cM but unlikely to do 6cM and 3cM due to home QTH antenna restrictions on those bands, although I might get those two bands up on a temporary mast if I can just to complete the frequency suite. The usual .150 SSB frequencies plus FM on 6M, 2M and 70CM should be available.

I will be set up for 3398.150 in lieu of 3400.150 unless otherwise prior advised by other locals that they will be on the 3400 segment.

Good luck all in the WFD.
