23 on 23 Plus MAD - Sat April 23rd 2016

Saturday April 23rd will see the next 23-on-23 for 2016.

As has been the past practice, where the 23rd falls on a weekend the events operating time have been shifted from the evening to a day-time activation event. This has also allowed operators to take full advantage of the time, and head for the hills to trial their /P stations, investigate new paths and hopefully complete a contact with a new station (or more) that they wouldn't normally from their home station. It also provides an opportunity to activate other uWave bands. :om3:

A suggested schedule:
2:00pm (04:00z) - 03:00pm (05:00z) 23cm SSB/CW only
3:00pm (05:00z) - 5:00pm (07:00z) 13cm and other uWave bands

Liaison -
147.000 Repeater (if the RDRC would again be happy with that)
40m - 7.150MHz (is that still the recommended QRG?)
Mobile/cell phone
VKLogger iChat '23&Above'

As a number of 23cm operators do not participate in the VKLogger forum, please let those who may be interested know by taking a moment to share the plans with them.

However to allow others to plan their participation, could you please advise your interest, availability and any suggested enhancements to the schedule in this thread? :!:

Well I'm heading for Howells Knob on the 23rd. I've been hoping to make it a club day and get a few more people from SCARC to attend. That way I can use the VK4WIS call sign on all bands. If I can't get anyone else to go up with me then it's back to VK4LHD call sign and not working 3.4Ghz and 10Ghz.
The times and format sound good to me. Just hope we get a bit of a turn out for this one.

I will be available for the Saturday afternoon. So far this year, Jan, Feb & March there have been 9, 10 & 8 stations on or an average of 9 per month.

73, Trevor, VK4AFL.

With the proposal to have the April 23-on-23 conducted as a 23-on-23 Plus or MAD, here's a reminder of why we take the opportunity and 'head for the hills'.

Who else is up for it?

Any Sydney stations interested?
This is also a WICEN in Sydney day. Discussing operations, at the BMARC club Glenbrook.

Perhaps to also use 147.000 (Dural) as liason.

A week to go... who else can make it! :om:

I'm hoping to push out to the south-west of BNE, but may consider other spots - will finalise tomorrow morning and update my /P profile.

Scott

I won't be on 23cm but hope to be on HF as VK9NU late in the day - if that helps at all - though I won't be on any band higher than 6m

G'day Doug

Any chance we could try on 6m Meteor Scatter during your trip?

Will you have FSK441capability?

SSB only KJ, mainly HF but I have added traps so that the dipole/V array starts at 50MHz and goes each band down to 3.5. Won't be rotatable and direction will be set by tree orientations. See http://www.vk9nu.net for more details....

G'day everyone

I am planning to go portable on Sat 23rd

I am going to try a waters-edge location on the southernmost tip of Bribie Island (QG62ov I believe)which I hope will offer a path over water to 4CZ at Border ranges.

Also clear to Maleny over water.

I am only intending to run 23 and 10GHz at this stage. It will be the first run for my recently upgraded 10GHz system which now sports another 6dB on Tx with the addition of a DEM 8 watt SSPA.

Other bands are available up to 24GHz if there are any special requests.

I will have 2m simplex or repeater for liaison and HF mobile capability

Finalised plans.... and have updated my /P profile to ensure you know where to beam.

At this stage I'll be QRV from:

Beechmount Community Hall
QG61OV55

/P station will entail:
1.2GHz - 180w and 36el DL6WU yagi
2.4GHz - 30w and 24dbi grid pack
10GHz - 3w and 600mm prime focus dish

Howells Knob and other high points are no issue, but the Bribie Island path is untested. I'll run path profiles tonight when I get the chance to ensure we have a path as I am concerned by the position of the Hall. If this does provide an major issue... I'll then reassess the site and head further to the south west! :wtf: Updating here and the /P profile!

Just completed path plot... Beechmount Hall to Bribie Is is RS... but a knife edge may work.

However I've started to looking to an alternative!
Bribie to Beechmount Hall.png
May head up Duck Creek Rd and to small spot I know.... I get to play in the 4x4 too  and profile looks OK!!

OK... that's it.... I'm heading to Duck Creek Rd in the hills to the west of Lamington NP. Path to Howells Knob and Bribie Island, and other Sunshine Coast paths looks ok!

/P profile has been correctly referenced.

Hopefully that works for others who have not yet advised their proposed /P QTH.

Duck Creek Rd - Lamington NP
QG61NT14
ASL 745m

/P station will entail:
1.2GHz - 180w and 36el DL6WU yagi
2.4GHz - 30w and 24dbi grid pack
10GHz - 3w and 600mm prime focus dish

With the 23-on-23 + MAD just 24 hours away, I wanted to confirm that everyone is OK with the proposed structure.

Schedule:
23cm SSB/CW only
2:00pm (04:00z) - 03:00pm (05:00z)

13cm and other uWave bands
3:00pm (05:00z) - 5:00pm (07:00z)

Liaison -
147.000 Repeater (if the RDRC would again be happy with that)
40m - 7.150MHz (is that still the recommended QRG?)
Mobile/cell phone
VKLogger iChat '23&Above'

BTW: I hope to get on-site close to 03:00z to set up... I have no chance of being their any earlier as its a 3 hour drive, and am trying to crunch other commitments into the morning!
