Hullo + fyi

Post by ZL2IH »

HI guys,
at long last, about to get the dish of Ted, ZL2IP (sk) moved to my place. Ted was always keen to nurture my nascent interest in vhf & up and basically strong-armed me into taking over his dish w/1296 gear when he passed on....
So, all the bits removed, prepped for lift and transport and now waiting on the crane crew to decide which day! They said maybe this week but we're about to be properly rained on so might be the week after.
Slowly getting my head around how the dish is wired; it works fine in elevation but no-go in az so a bit of head scratching to be done.
Been a long wait to getting on vhf and up but with a tower build nearly under way for the vhf+, the end is nigher than previously.
So hopefully not too much longer and Ted's dish will be back up and going.

Looks good Ian.
With that crane did they lift it in to your place from the street
The RX and TX coax only need to small as the drive required with the transverter in the "shed" will be down in the 15w region and the preamp on RX will more that make up for the coax loss. So I think you'll get it all down the downpipe.

Looks like the mount would take a much bigger dish too

Ill have to plain another trip up your way to see this in action.

That's a serious dish kit, Ian. 8)

Never mind waiting for the right tropo conditions, you can burn your own path across the d'tch ! :D

"You're 5x9+40dB, Ian, and you owe me a new preamp !"

Ted had the RF gear mounted in the rear hub of this dish.
Down inside the shed, or at the top of the shed as you walked in, was the big cog.
Worked Ted many times on 1296 and 2.4 GHz terrestrial.
With 1296 EME he worked a few of recent - before his sad passing.
On 1296 EME 2.4 meter dish and 150 watts at the feed.

Turns out it weighed in at 3T and not the 1.5T as believed....
Another meter of radius and it would of needed a bigger crane to take it out. I wondered what that horn was about during the lift??
Hi Roger, yes, came to that conclusion myself about the coax runs which means it most likely will all fit, probably.
Hi Steve, nice to see you again and the gear as he described. Kuhne with PE1RKI 150w. 110vac synchros for direction finding.
Pretty near drop in eme solution.
Just add crane.

Thanks Ian,
For all the years knew Ted never asked him how he got the dish onto his property. I'm sure the dish, from memory, came from Wellington but I could be wrong.
