Post by VK3YT »

Hi all,

FYI,

PS-58 is in the air (at the same time as PS-56 and PS-57)

Solar powered party balloon, 25mW TX
TX WSPR, JT9 on 30m only

Dial frequency 10.138700Mhz (standard WSPR dial frequency) for WSPR, JT9.
JT9 is at 1700Hz

See HF decoding info at http://picospace.net/?cat=34

Tracking as PS-57 on SNUS http://tracker.habhub.org/#!mt=roadmap& ... 58&q=PS-58
WSPR call sign is VK3ANH http://wsprnet.org/olddb?findcall=vk3anh

TX scheduling
Minute - Band - Mode - Condition
:00 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - mandatory
:10 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - if batt full
:20 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - if batt full
:30 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - mandatory
:40 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - if batt full
:50 - 30m - 2 mins WSPR then two x 1 min JT9 - if batt full

Assistance with tracking is appreciated.

Thanks Alan,

Looks like you are running an unmodified version of the software, which does not upload automatically?

It looks like Andy's server is down so the PS-58 JT9 decodes are not making it to the Habhub tracking site. Hopefully Andy can rectify the problem soon.

In the mean time a watch can be kept via the WSPRnet.org spots from PS-58 (WSPR callsign = VK3ANH) keeping in mind that the "power level" is an indication of altitude. Each 'power level step' is a 1000 meter wide altitude band e.g.
1W or +30dBm means 10,000 - 11,000 meters of altitude
0.5W or +27dBm means 9,000 to 10,000 m
0.2W or +23dBm means 8,000 to 9,000 m
0.1W or +20dBm means 7,000 to 8,000 m
etc
etc

Thanks for sharing that, Bob. I have noticed the changing power level before, but did not know what the function was.

PS-58 has been an interesting flight, dodging cyclones. Maybe it's headed to the out-of-season hurricane in the North Atlantic??

The data here says 5 weeks, 5 days and 5 hours flight time ... not bad, but a shame it could not hold on for a few more days to make a world circuit. Never mind, it took "the tourist route" and went places where none of Andy's balloons had gone before so it was quite entertaining.

Now we wait for the next balloon with transmitter on HF, be it from VK3YT or possibly VE3KCL.........or??

Great flight Andy. More interesting when it crosses over the equator and stirs up our usa and europe friends :D

Yes John antennas are back in action, we had some bad bush fires which sent our feathered friends our way to munch on our local pine trees

Bob do I sense a drifter happening ???? :J

Thanks again Andy
