WSPR Ver 2.0 and IC7400

Post by ZL1SWW »

Hi All,
Happy new year when it comes..

I decided to have a dabble on the WSPR and am using an Icom IC7400 (IC746 pro). I have been having trouble with the CAT setup. There is no generic entry for IC7400 but can pick an IC 746 pro.
This is model 346 in the list. I cannot get any comms running.. Looking at the binaries there is a file that contains the rig types. In there, I see "346 Icom IC-746PRO 0.4 Untested" .
Has anyone been running an IC7400 with success?

I know the comms is running OK with HRD.. So the hardware is fine and comm ports good.
It maybe that the CI-V address is different between the 7400 and the 746 pro. Mine is 0x66 which is the default and think that it is the same for the 746 pro.

Any ideas / experiences with the 7400?

Cheers and thanks,

Simon

Simon,
I am using WSPR ver 2.0 with a IC7400 and is working well, I am using the IC746Pro option, for some reason it works best with a serial rate of 19200, data bits 8, stop bits 2 and handshake set to hardware

However if I try to use WSPRX I get a com error with the same settings :?:

Hi Simon,
all of the WSJT programs rely on the HAMLIB libraries (DLL's) to do the data link to the radio, the older version of WSPR would have older releases of the HAMLIB files which may not have what you need in them. Can I suggest you grab WSJT-X which has WSPR in it and try that as well, it has support for a wider collection of radios.

Thanks Guys,
I will have a go with the x version and c see what happens. Interesting about the comms anomalies between programs. Don't see many things using 2 stop bits these days...

Cheers and thanks,
Simon

Hi Simon

If you are using HRD and have CAT interface from your rig to HRD go to setup WSPR and you will find Ham Radio Deluxe in the drop down list of rig, select that, leave network server blank and use VOX as the PTT method. I use this method with my IC756 pro2 and works fine.

" serial rate of 19200, data bits 8, stop bits 2 and handshake set to hardware". I would expect handshake should be set to "None". CI-V / CAT uses multidrop wired-or network. Handshaking is not possible unless you have some smart "uP" driving the network from PC. "Hardware may work if DB connector at PC is looped back or states are configurable as in OmniRig.

CIV Address for IC746Pro should be teh same as IC7400. That is 66h. The address can be set in the menu of the IC746Pro item 37. 38 & 39 should be "off" 36 is baud rate. the lower baud rate (9600) should be more reliable. Mine's 19200; Data bits and stop bits are fixed and should be set to 8 data and 1 stop. (2 should work but may only work one way).

The "Rig number" is the table entry number for WSPR etc. Yes the IC746Pro is Radio 346. and it does communicate with the radio address set at 66h.

With JT65-HF, the same Radio number is used for the IC746Pro. Using the Hamlib options, the CI-V works as it does with OmniRig is you have that installed and set to the above parameters. I also have RTS set high and DTR set high. Poll Int is 500ms and timeout 4000ms.

I hope that helps.

George,
Thanks, Have changed hardware to none and WSJT-X still works, not sure why I had it set to hardware, wsprx still has a comms error will have to investigate one day.
