The Hepburn charts are looking very positive for this coming Monday (public holiday in VK4) and Tuesday (be at work with the other minions).

Hopefully a few ZLs can be avail?

Apparently there are FK8's with 2m SSB but I have never worked any. I suggest monitoring the FK8 beacons:

FK8HA TX 146.2 MHz RX 146.8 MHz. FK8HB TX 145.1 MHz RX 145.7 MHZ, and if they are heard or can be activated, look for the contact details of FK8 hams in QRZ.com and phone or send emails.

There is also an FM broadcast station on 90.0 MHz.

The FK8 to VK and ZL is a neglected path and should be doable on VHF, UHF and SHF. It would be good if we can find a way to promote activity in FK8

Have been testing 145.700 but nothing as yet from Hervey Bay. 146.800 is the local Bundy repeater so give that one a miss.
Not set up to Rx on 90 mhz very well. Will post if anything happens.

The FK8 repeater, the one on the top of the hill has been worked by an Auckland amateur around about 10 or so years ago.

Last time we worked the FK8 Repeater on 146.8 it had a very long tail with a "k" at the end . Almost twice the length on the bundy repeater and very distinguishable

I have worked FK8 repeaters on 2m many times when i lived in mackay. path around 1500km.
When they are in they are in for hours and hours. Accessible even mobile.
However no-one answers your calls.
Fm broadcast floods the bottom part of the band with lots of stations.
Music is typically french with that disco and pacific twist.

They are into Townsville at least 3-4 times a year, but your right, nobody answers the call even when I use my very limited French. It would be wonderful to have a ham in FK8 who was into the higher bands. Maybe there is a case for a dxpedition from VK?

Hi Scott

Heard the repeater and ident this morning but could not trigger it.

Len VK4ALF advised he also heard it mobile whilst driving to work a bit after 7AM

1296 contacts to VK
Today worked VK4REX, VK4ADM, VK2MAX, VK2DVZ and VK2ZT on 23 cm.
Highlights for me was three new VK stations on this band, there were VK4REX, VK4ADM and VK2MAX. (Have worked VK2DVZ and VK2ZT many times before)
With those contacts to VK4, these are my first, those two contacts also gave me my best DX on 23 cm at 2310 km and 2308 km.
The contact with VK2MAX, we have been close in the past, but finally done. We have both been determined over a number of years.
My 23 cm (VK stations) contacts in total is now 9 since 2003 when I first worked VK2DVZ.
They are in close order, VK2DVZ, VK2ZAB, VK2KU/VK2TS/p, VK2FZ, VK2AMS, VK2ZT, VK4REX, VK4ADM, VK2MAX.
The VK Logger has helped immensely with these contacts so thanks Adam for providing this invaluable resource.
Also the 23 cm activity sessions up in VK4 have helped greatly and produced results today.
Thanks,
Cheers, Steve

Up here in north and far north QLD we are hoping that the next big red blob will extend a lot further north and we will get a crack at the ZL's too. :D

If anyone works and FK8 on any band let them know that their repeater has been heard an encourage them to try for VK and ZL contacts on VHF and UHF. I wonder if the TX3C group have any 2m gear - even HH for local liaison?

Further to my last, I wonder what the chances are of getting a VHF/UHF beacon in FK8?

I'll return the favour Steve... the VK (QG62lp) end of the path.

Steve was RS59 just after I took this video whilst he worked VK2DVZ
