TYT/TYTERA MD-380 DMR Handheld

Post by VK4VIP »

Thought I would start a topic up for people to have a chat about the new DMR/MOTOTRBO HT by Tytera.
I have been having lots of fun using it on the commercial bands and can't wait to use it on the amateur bands.
I have a 400-480mhz model but have also successfully made it happily receive DMR signals in the 491mhz band without any issues and a sensitivity drop of 5dbm from -121dbm to -116dbm.

Who else out there owns one and what do you think of it so far.

The picture is my MD-380 on the local 70cm Analog Repeater

It is very sad reading how TYT are ripping off their dealers... if anyone wants to learn more about this I suggest you have a read of the MD-380 Facebook page... I now regret buying my MD-380 because without a manufacturer you can trust these radios are going to become paperweights very quickly.

Yes I have read that Richard and it is very sad that TYT is doing that to there dealers as they are a very nice radio for the money you pay for them, I guess some of those Chinese companies only care about the dollars they are making and not customer service and this is sad.

Do you know any local dealers who are selling the MD-380 please?

Unfortainly no Allen I don't, I thought that maybe Andrews Communications may have picked them up as they sell TYT but hey haven't. But as Richard stated above TYT has been trying to rip off dealers and word gets around quick and I am thinking that maybe people are to scared to become dealers. I have been asked several times but Joey from TYT but as I don't own a radio shop I am not interested.
I bought mine off eBay.

I made the bold statement:

Why not put a full Banana Pi 2 chipset in a hand-held.

on the US DMR Yahoo group, back three months ago.
(complete with a Linux we can 'fiddle' with)

Gidday Lads,

I have started a yahoo group covering digital two ways here in Australia. It is for swapping ideas, info, files, configurations etc. It is for proffesionals,
amateurs or just scanning enthusiasts. Check it out.

It can be found at: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/dig ... oaust/info

I'm after a couple of DMR UHF mobile radios, what's the best value for money option?

I've received a new MD380 this week, got it programmed using the file on the Facebook page, and had a quick chat to a ZL2 yesterday via TG5 (VK4RMC), very cool. However, having trouble getting it to scan the six TGs. I've tried updating the firmware (currently FW 2.03, CP1.30), pressing the two buttons while powering up, start the transfer, the progress bar moves and there is a modal box pop up with unreadable characters. Is there something else I need to do to complete the upgrade process?
