6m operation on VHF FD weekend

Post by vk1da »

I know of at least two operators who will be active on 6m on Saturday 20th June near or in the Sydney basin. 50.15 to 50.2 and 52.2 SSB and 52.525 fm are the likely band areas. (As well as 2m and 70cm bands.)

All 6m contacts appreciated.

Thanks Andrew. VK3KQ/p will keep a lookout for stations in your direction from QF22DM - on 6m particularly, but also on other bands as well.

Ralph
I will be ecstatic if I can make a contact with you guys from the location I'm planning. But I take the view that I log the contacts and think about it afterwards. Any surprises will be welcome.

Look out for Geoff vk2ul who lives near me in Yass. Well set up and on 4 bands up to 23cm.

I'll have 52.525 FM running in Ryde, Syndey. Lets see if that works

I can do split for those who can only Tx on 50 MHz as well.

6M in contests is a bit rare but interesting for us poor S calls.

I will also point 2, 70 & 23cm S to see if that works.

Hi Compton,
I'm planning to operate from Mt Gibraltar near Bowral/Mittagong, aka VK2/IL-001 to SOTA operators. But my main interest on Saturday will be the VHF field day, I expect to have about 30w on 6m and 2m, 5w on 70cm. SSB and FM are both possible but I think the low power will work best on SSB. After a few hours on Gibraltar I will transfer to Alexandra nearby, a little lower but with less local qrm. Will look out for you on all those bands...

Should have added that if there was any interest in 2.4 GHZ on Saturday in the Sydney basin I would bring my 2.4 G system and try it from Mt Gibraltar.

Andrew,

If you take the 2.4Ghz setup this weekend, make sure you don't break it!

Remember we have a sked in the Spring and Summer FDs to work you on 2.4Ghz from VK3ER/p!!!!!!

Good luck this weekend - I will be operating from the home qth for once.

Cheers

Hi Peter
There has been no interest shown in 2.4g so it will stay home.

It turned out that only a handful of operators were out in the entire Sydney area. I worked VK2IO in Blue Mts (a SOTA operator joining in the VHF field day), VK2TG, VK2EH, VK2BHO, VK2VOM and surprise of the day, VK5KV in a brief Es opening. No other vk5s were heard and only a few worked 5KV.
There was another operator calling CQ often but not answering any replies other than making a partial contact with 5KV.

I was on 50.150 for a few hours Sat PM as our club call VK2MB/P. Portable station outside our clubhouse, however we had a social BBQ on that meant I often drifted away from the radio in the direction of sizzling meat. Had contacts with
VK2TG, VK2EH, one or two others, and a VK4 during a brief E's. Had to go back and forth a couple of times due to QSB, 4x1 signal levels. Finished up, he moved onto the next contact and his signal came up to S7 :)

Didn't manage to get on any other bands, I just took a simple dipole for 6m. Openings into other states (or NZ) are fun :)
