I have onky been an occasional 6m operator in the past, now more active. I can hear the VK7RAE Don Hill beacon a lot, by my calculation its a 320km path across water from my location. Is this unusual?

No, not from South Gippsland. I get it on Speclab all the time and often I can hear it.

thanks David, I will keep checking but I can usually hear it at the noise level or better (helps to dsp the CW width down to 100hz).

This begs the question that if we can hear a 10w Omni beacon at low ASL we should be able to do SSB@100W with yagi's to North Coast most of the time as well?

Hi Paul

In 2001 I worked Norm 3DUT at good strength from a hill near Burnie using a wire dipole lying on a bush. I think 300km is a typical distance for 6m with 10w.
