Callsign versus Licence grades...

While it is clear that an individual cannot apply for a callsign which is designated for a 'higher' grade than their COP, what is not so clear is whether an individual can hold a callsign from a 'lower' grade than their COP. It seems there is no limit as how many callsigns you can have as long as you pay the fees.

For example - can an Advanced grade licensee hold a callsign from the Standard grade range ?

Why ? - I hear you ask. Well - perhaps the individual wants a callsign which is associated with their own interests. For example, if someone is interested in astronomy they might want VK2SKY (which IS an advanced callsign - and taken). But what if the 3-letter combination is a Standard callsign - like VK2LAC if you were a dairy farmer... :-)

Alan, at the risk of steering the thread in another direction (please don't) I would point out that some people think that the whole idea is bull---- and just a way of milking research funding by beefing up their findings

Peter - in your case you hold certificates for both Standard and Advanced licences.

What would the scenario be if someone only had the Advanced certificate (say a legacy AOCP) and nothing else..?

I herd (sorry) somewhere some blokes chewing the cud (sorry again) over this some years ago re holders of standard or advanced licensees not being qualified to get a foundation license unless they pass the practical exam as that is part of the qualification?

I don't know why anyone would want to anyway but if you are in the moood (sorry) to try, let us know how you go ay?

This thread is becoming cattlestrophic. Sorry to horn in like this but some of these old puns ring a bell, I dairy say.

My two squirts into the bucket - Your callsign should reflect your class of licence - that whey there is no confusion.

I will now return and cower in my corner, before some one comes and whips me till I scream.
