That's great news! But not for those of us who have recently renewed their licence for 5 years. }:[

Is it good news?

Page 5 says that to calculate a fee you add the licence fee and the tax.

Page 19 says:
Tax amount / Fees upon renewal(GST excl)
$47.36 / $51.00

So 47.36 + 51.00 = 98.36

Add the GST 98.36 + 5.10 = 103.46

To me, and I am no accountant, that is an over 25% increase...

Seems a little ambiguous.

Firstly, looking back through previous renewal notices the GST value has always been $0.00. My renewal fee last year was $28.00 + $46.00 + $0.00 = $74.00.

Now it looks like there is a distinction between issue and renewal so "perhaps" the charge for issue of a new license is $28.00 and renewal is now $4.00? The tax amount is $47.36 and upon billing it is rounded down to $47.00?

If this is what has happened then it seems we have indeed been offered a reduced renewal rate of $51 per year.

Roger, what's the story?

As extracted from Assessor Alert #108 emailed out yesterday morning:

ACMA have advised that the Licence Fee has Increased from $74.00 to $75.00 per year for the radio amateur licence

It seems a $1 increase is actually the correct detail.....

ACMA make the following statement re determining the fee on the ACMA WWW site:

http://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/About/Ma ... lator-acma

Fees must be paid to keep your apparatus licence valid. Licence fees are determined by factors such as spectrum location, geographical location, amount of spectrum occupied and coverage area authorised by your licence. This page links to a calculator you can use to work out your licence fee.

To calculate your licence fee, follow the link below. You'll be asked a series of questions. Answer them accurately to get an accurate cost estimate.

If at any time you're unsure of the categories, select one and then click on the '?'. This will show a brief description of the selected category. For a more extensive description, you can read general information on apparatus licensing.

The ACMA is experiencing some technical difficulties with the apparatus licence fee calculator and it is currently not available for use. It will be available once the problem is rectified.

Last updated: 02 April 2015

Seems the fee system is busted and has been for 2 plus weeks.....

I had three licenses sitting on the bench to get renewed. I asked the minister for finance to ring up and query the value and this morning had all three renewals issued at $51 each. So browsing the forum last night was worth the effort.

Total Tax: $47.00
Total Charge: $4.00
Total GST: $0.00
AMOUNT DUE: $51.00

Ok so my renewal arrived at $75 but my licence expiry is late May, so it is after the April change shouldn't i be paying $51 for the renewal? The renewal notice only arrived in the mail box last week, i'll have to check the date it was printed on.

Hence the uncertainty on my part.

Assessor alert #108 says there has been a $1 increase in the tax
VK3MEL has three renewals for $51
VK3JUG has one renewal for $75 which clearly includes the $1 tax increase

Doesn't anyone find it strange that we apparently received a reduction in renewal fees and there was no fanfare from the WIA or ACMA? Doesn't it strike anyone as strange that someone would give up 1/3 of their normal revenue just like that?

I'm glad there's been a reduction as I fork out for four renewals a year but sometimes you scratch your head and wonder why.

The fact is that the ACMA charges on the basis of strict cost recovery and regularly goes through a quite rigorous internal process to ensure that they charge neither too little nor to much. Changes in process and corresponding administrative charges are therefore reflected in the fee. We should be grateful that we are not charged market value.

Agreed Grant and I am grateful because I pay four renewals every year - just surprised that the fee should go down and by so much. It has surely been a while since our renewal fee was so low.

OK. The ACMA position. The new payment came into affect 7th April 2015. Renewals on or after the 7/4/15 are $51 and a call to the 1300 number on your renewal notice will have this corrected for you. If your payment was due on/post this date. In my case. I paid the $75 due 14/4 and as a result they have added on time (additional days). Renault due Before 7/4. It was the $74/75.

The lady said. That in February/March. When they had issues with missed sent out renewals they had a large volume of people call and request an early invoice. Those early invoices will NOT be corrected/ changed for the difference.

So! How's that for efficiency. She said they had a lot of calls about this today :))

My renewal notice

And proof of life. As they say. My corrected added on license just now updated. Because who would trust me. :) I'm a yooth.

From the wia.

********

Fred Swainston confirms the licence fee schedule for all amateurs.

Good afternoon,
I have received several inquiries relating to the fees ACMA are charging for licences.
The fee for an initial licence is $75.
The fee for a renewal is $51.
This applies from the 7th April, 2015.
During the changeover from the old renewal fee of $75 to the new renewal fee of $51 there have been some renewals charged the old fee. ACMA have advised that the licence period can be extended to cover the $75 if already paid, or contact ACMA to make alternative arrangements.
Please note that at assessment the initial fee still remains $75 for
candidates.
Regards
Fred
