Stauff clamps...

Post by VK2XV »

Just visited my local Stauff stockist and purchased 10 off 12mm clamps. Thought they were a bit steep at $6.20 ea.

Is this a representative price ?

Hi Steve

I use PIRTEK clamps at about $2 per set, bigger ones just over, smaller just under.

Available from Pirtek, branches all over, google for your nearest branch.

Hi Frank - thanks.

I have downloaded a catalogue - but it is in B/W - so I can't see if they are green or black. General opinion is against using the black ones.

I guess you don't have any type numbers ?

Hi Steve,

They are blue ,been using them for years with no probs, they sometimes try to sell you a steel plate which you dont need.

I think the part number is CC10 for 10mm ones,CC12 for 12mm ones etc
I'll have a look for a docket to verify that and let you know
cheers

Thanks - the catalogue shows CC2-10 & CC2-12 for 10mm & 12mm. A docket would be useful - but perhaps I have enough info to front up and have a look at what's on offer.

Hi - trying to avoid thru-the-boom correction for my first attempt. If successful I will be more confident in applying corrections.

Thanks.

Hi again,

yep that sounds right CC2 then the size
I use from 6mm though to 16mm on square booms, very easy construction.
I have a wrecked 6M 11 eleven element on a 20M boom(top guy broke) but none of the 16mm clamps are damaged, some of the elements are tied in knots.

The Stauff clamps came with two bolts, a top plate and a bottom plate with embedded nuts - perhaps why they were more expensive. None of the extra hardware is usable, so being able to buy just the plastic insulator would be cheaper, but they came as a unit.

It occurred to me that it might at first seem a good idea to use the top plate to spread the pressure on the plastic part - however, I think this would be a very BAD idea, as it would form, in concert with the conductive bolts, a closed (although insulated) loop around the elements which, I suspect, would induce currents in the boom.

yep, you can usually order just the shells, depending on where you order them from.

I've found that using rivnuts to mount the clamps is the best balance between strength and weight.

Have a look at the catalogue:

http://www.stauff.com.au/index.php?id=3 ... =3897-5448

Look at the Stauff1 series

For 12mm tubing you need the 112aPP type number. I ordered direct from Stauff and from memory they were $1.20 per pair

Good idea - although for this design I will be using a sleeved boom and so rivnuts are out.

Thanks everyone - esp. Steve and Rex !!!

Just got a quote for qty 10 ea of 6.35mm, 10mm & 12mm clamps from Jarvie Engineering. $1.20 ea (+GBT) and $10 postage for total quantity 30 off. Works out at $1.65 ea delivered.

Very happy about that !!!

I am very happy about that too, I got a quote off the local Stauff agent, nearly $8 each for the complete unit, does not stock the shells. I will be giving Jarvie Engineering a call :D
