Remember these?

Post by VK4GHZ »

Along the same theme as the excellent thread started by Peter, VK3YE, "What's on your workbench" this is a continuous thread, but for posting up things of interest from years gone by.
  • Something you've discovered during a shack clean up perhaps?
  • Things that should have been thrown out years ago?
  • Something that might become "collectable" in the future?
Obviously, visuals works best. A picture is worth 1,000 words.

To get the ball rolling...

Found this during a cleanup today.
EMDRC members badge (circa 1979-1980).
Long before the days of CAD... a Tandy Electronics drawing aide for digital schematics. (used extensively circa 79/80/81/82/83)

And the Pièce de résistance... the Dick Smith "Limited Edition" plastic chalice.
There were only another 4168 (at least) of these out there - priceless!

Ah ha! I remember those plastic templates well.

I used one for one of my commercial exams - there was a compulsory question that required you to draw a receiver block diagram (500 kHz Auto alarm)...it came in very handy.

Hello Glenn.
Do you remember having to hand start the synchronous motor of the 500Khz Auto Alarm ?

I would have purchased this program from the DIck Smith shop in Bridge Road, Richmond VIC, a considerable number of years ago. You can see how far I got with Tape 1 and Tape 2 still has the tape leader visible.

I might have to try them out as finally I am interested in giving CW a try.

I recently found this little box of matches from a time when it was O.K to have a little risqué fun.
One of the many stunts by VK2DIK - Dick Smith.

I'm sure that some of you remember the April Fools Day stunts that he concocted over the years!

Who else has one of these old work ties?

Do you remember the company.

Peter Parker would. Anyone else?

I am surprised so many don't recognise the staff tie for Dick Smith Electronics - back from when the staffers knew something about electronics rather than electrical appliances like now (I guess it is okay though, as all us new licensees are applicae operators anyway :) ).

I was compelled to write to DSE head office once, when the radio 'Techxpert' in my local store didn't know what a PL259 was when I asked about one.

Jaycar seems to be the only serious contender left!

Hi all...

The big question is, what is the circuit that tie is representing...looks like a board layout of some sorts..
