Sad news.....Bob VK3ZL passed away peacefully at 8:10pm this evening. Bob had been very ill for some time but his health deteriorated rapidly over the past few days.

That's really sad news Gavin. Condolences to his loved ones.

Bob was somebody we should all aspire to being like. He was somebody that taught me much as a young newcomer to the hobby back in the 80s.

Vale Bob.

Sorry to hear and condolences to all Bob's family. It wasn't that long ago I was talking to Bob, and he told me about his diagnosis and illness.

His callsign will certainly live on for many years to come with some exquisitely built amplifiers that are out there.

Very sad. Condolences to Jeannie and family.
He will be missed, but his legacy lives on in the PAs that he built and are proudly owned by many.

I am quite shocked saw him with a cane at Casterton before Xmas.
Went around on last Tuesday of June on way to car club to drop off some QST as I always did, felt a chill in the air no one around and feared the worst.
His pet magpie hopped down looking for some food.
No sign of the car or the dog.
Then.....................................
Didn't hear from Bob like I usually do.
Now I know why.

Bob and I met way back in 70s and kept each other company at Merino when we batched in 1998 me at Wannon him at Turnley Street.
Always a hot cuppa available.
And even his siamese cats got to like me.
Took heaps of old broadcast gear to his place
and an old LAM
We talked about 6M amps when he only wanted to build 160M amps.
Converted one of his 1500s to 6M then Arie AMZ converted it to 2M its still going today.

CFA will miss him this summer as the Merino Base Fire watch officer, calling in for the weather
we all will

I received a message today from Jean Briggs to say Bob was buried today at Coleraine. Just she and Bob and the funeral director at the cemetery.

He joins Roy Muir, Jamie Ferrier, and Harold Benson in that small town.
There were no announcements in the papers and I received no phone calls, was just 15 mins away at work on Mt Dundas.
Really sad to think such an esteemed colleague was buried with no representative of the hams he served.

Steve

I agree with your sentiments but that's the way Bob and Jeannie wanted it to be.
