What are the antennas now? The 10m 1/2 wave vertical is obvious, is the 6m beacon switching alternately between the two dipoles at right angles? or?
Presently the 10m beacon is 559 and the 6m beacon is scattering in weakly as usual via meteors or something.

Hi Bob ok what we have done is added the 10m vertical at the top of the pole (1/4 wave was lower down on building) and we have removed the phased arrays and have replaced with two switchable dipoles at right angles...they seem t be working very well, down the track we will put something up more fancy. We had to do this as the phased arrays which have been in service for over 20 years where stuffed and needed replacing. The current system seems to be working very well and we welcome reports.ZL1RS wrote:What are the antennas now? Hi Mike,
Thanks for that info. The 6m beacon meteor scatter signal arriving here now is far more consistent and much stronger than before. Last night I was getting regular meteor pings where as before they were fairly rare at that time of day. This morning there is a steady stream of meteor burst and a distinctive pattern on SpecLab as the two dipoles switch (about 15 seconds in either direction?) There has been a very worthwhile improvement.
I had not listened for ZL3TEN before, but it was very readable last night and again this morning which I find quite impressive at this distance.

No worries Bob, I am very surprised you can hear the 10m beacon particularly on a dead band so very happy with those resultsZL1RS wrote:Hi Mike,

73,
Yes the 6m beacon should be getting out better now particularly North south just waiting now for the winter SP/E season!!
Edit : Just for your information Bob the antenna switching is around 55 seconds each, you will not the beacon does ID what antenna it is on either "NE" or "NW"
Yes the 10m beacon is considerably better now with the new antenna...
Cheers
Cheers Bob

Thanks Mike. There must have been some QSB or waves of MS pings that day which caused more or less the 15 second enhancements seen that time. Today the sequence is quite clear on what appears to be a meteor enhanced low level scatter signal ... there is 'more or less something there' on SpecLab during the whole period of the favoured antenna with readable enhancements from meteors, and only the very occasional 'ping' from the unfavoured antenna during the other time slot.ZL3MF wrote:Just for your information Bob the antenna switching is around 55 seconds each, you will not the beacon does ID what antenna it is on either "NE" or "NW" ...
The other day when we had good Es propagation the whole ident string was readable the "NE" and "NW" direction identifiers were noted. "NE" was stronger here as expected, the the Es cloud moved and backscatter enhanced the NW antenna as we were working VKs so the two directions were similar in strength.
I look forward to the next 'F2 season' to look for the beacon via backscatter from the east in the morning.
