Yep, VK2WET (Tank Radio) via TCP/IP.
Almost all of the NSW APRS weather stats are done through there.

Actually, it was VK2TV showing me this weather data info at tank radio that got me into APRS.

So why did he have to do that? Unattended AX.25 has been permitted for a very long time. What benefit did him getting an R-Call bring (other than lining the pockets of the ACMA coffers)?

I think I counted 78 licensed services when I checked on the weekend. Clearly some don't agree with you, and the senior ACMA officer I spoke to today didn't either. And I'm pretty sure he isn't getting a cut in revenue so I think that such suggestions only go to p!ssing off the ACMA officers who are just trying to do their job. This issue is not as simple as you portray and it has less to do with it being a packet type mode as does the means of control and location of the service.

You have plenty of contacts in ACMA Grant- how about you do some lobbying for a clarification?

Cheers

Didn't notice any weather stations from Tamworth this morning, but I see RF packets relayed from VK2XSO in the Tamworth area (380km north of me).

The nearest stations to me are all digis, it is typically 40-80km to an end station... but the channel is quite busy sometimes.
