PICO balloon release 5pm AEST 26/4/14, tracking requested

Post by VK3YT »

Hi all,

The prediction looks good this weekend, I am planning a PICO balloon release from Melbourne-Sydney and possible QLD at around 4-5pm this Sat
The difference this time is it will not be APRS, but RTTY which requires manual tracking
** Updated: It will be both APRS and RTTY

Details:

434.650Mhz, USB
Small tracker
10mW, quater-wave antenna
100baud RTTY, ASCII 8,None,1
Callsign PS
Altitude: 7000m

Tracking: dl-fldigi on http://spacenear.us

Will be on in #highaltitude chatroom on irc.freenode.net

Assistance with tracking is greatly appreciated.

Prediction:

Again this is not a lot of warning but it is the best I can do

Regards
Andy

Unfortunately the download site does not directly mention the HAB version of the software and eventually found mention of it on the Horus site. I have version 3.21.50 HAB version loaded. Looks like Saturdays balloon is not listed yet. Have I got it right yet please?

Thanks

Hi all,

Things are looking good, the release will go ahead as planned.
We will need to start a bit earlier as the prediction has changed slightly, and the optimal release time will be around 2-3pm AEST.

Another slight change is there will be APRS tagging along with RTTY for backup.
Spacenear.us now has the approved flight as PS-5. You should be able to do autoconfig on dl-fldigi.

I have updated http://picospace.net with some details and a photo of the tracker.

Hi all....

Just a curious question, has anyone ever obtained a visual of one of the Balloon flights...as it passed overhead or near maybe your location...?
