Yaesu FT-857 install into Landcruiser 200 Series
Yaesu FT-857 install into Landcruiser 200 Series
I have recently purchaesed a 200 Series Landcruiser and am going to install my FT-857 with the ATAS 120 into it. Before I start ripping it apart, has anyone done a similar install and can provide some ideas etc? Where to put the head end and the base ?

Let me know how you get on. I had a problem fitting a xciever to the LC100 and it's due for change and it's hard to move away from them. It's funny how there is no spare space on matter how big the vehicle is!
The 100 had a bay (if one removed the 6 stack CD) that was DIN but I was not alowed to remove the music... (wifes orders) so I never fitted HF capability.
In the end I put a VX7 with amplifier (and it hardly gets used) in but that wont be moved to the nex one.
I put my amplifier under the passangers seat but I remember there is something there (it's a black metal protrusion) but I managed to get it in ok.

How long is the cable on the separation kit? Are you going to be running a cargo barrier?
In my GQ, I've got the IC2200h for APRS mounted to the cargo barrier just below the top of the rear seat. It's out of the way, protected (feet/hands & water ingress ), and is close to the power distribution block that's also on the cargo barrier.
The IC706 was supposed to be in the same place, but the separation kit is too short to reach from the middle of the dash to the cargo barrier unless I pull out all the seats and carpet and run it along the tunnel (which I haven't had time to do yet).
As for where to mount the head, have you looked at RAM mounts?

If you remove the center part of the dash there is enough space in the 200 insert a house brick. Maybe the body of the 857D could go in there? It is easy to access, do a search for it and you will find the how to on many 4WD forums.

So sorry to hear you bought a Landcruiser!
The FT-857D head unit in my Nissan Patrol is mounted on the sun glass holder, with the main unit mounted to the cargo barrier in the rear.

That's why I fitted a winch to my LandCruiser, forever rescuing Patrols

I have a Icom IC706MK2G installed in my Ford Territory, the main unit is under the passengers seat and both the head unit and main unit can be removed under 1min, works a treat!! Would recommend putting the HF antenna at the back of the vehicle to reduce ignition noise. The AH4 antenna tuner is mounted under the car right next to the antenna.VK5MK wrote:I have recently purchaesed a 200 Series Landcruiser and am going to install my FT-857 with the ATAS 120 into it. Thanks to everyone who responded. You have all certainly given me some great ideas. I wasn't going to fit a winch but some of you think it may be a community service to the Patrol owners .. chortle, chortle.
Once I get it sorted I'll post what I ended up doing.
