Well, I'm going to give the HA a try again on CW. The problem is that my noise level is so bad on 80m I like to go short-term portable, but given the soggy surroundings in Brisbane at the moment, I'll be flat out finding a dry spot. At least I won't have to worry about good conductivity for the grounding stake! :D

Anyone else going to use the original digital mode?

About to leave soon to cut some firewood and shall do a campout on a nice dead noise free farm. Well away from powerlines and the like.

There are quite a number of qrp cw enthusiasts out there so you won't be lonely. SOTA has raised quite an interest in cw operation.

Good luck with your scores.

Well, that's it...all over, red rover, for another year. Was it just me or was the CW contest decidedly quiet? In the end, I made only 12 contacts, and that was from the Murrenbong scout camp with a high-in-the-air dipole and 100 watts. Given the low noise floor (static crashes ignored) I could even hear the QRP station, so I assume there weren't too many on CW this HA.

Pity; it was a good opportunity for a short burst contest. Anyway, thanks to those who I did hear bashing away for the full 106 minutes, and well done to VK3BAA/QRP.

G'day John,

I can't speak for the CW category, but the Phone category was way down on last year, most likely due to the weather on the east coast. I worked fewer than 2/3 of the number I worked last year. Despite the QRN, I only had to say "sorry I can't work you" to 2 stations. Maybe there were other stations there that I couldn't even hear.

Fingers crossed for better weather and better participation next year.

Thanks to everyone who worked me, and sorry if I couldn't hear you.

Thank you to the 15 stations that worked me on CW.
Participation seemed to be low - shame :-(

The usual CW stations spent the 106 mins calling CQ with little response - well done to them for perseverance - you all deserve a certificate!

Well, actually Steve, this VK4 did hear you and tried calling but you must have been quick on the QSY! Never mind - those who did give it a go had fun; I certainly did. Having VK4FZ yarning to me whilst I pounded away, and then producing his bottle of Bundy choc/coffee (added to my thermos) made things even smoother!

Heard VK2IUW and VK2AOH madly ditting away - so well done Hilary and Nick...and thanks for the numbers!

To my embarrassment forgot all about this thread  .

A exciting epic, was camped out with high hopes for zero noise floor only to be hit by static crashes from thunderstorms further north on the coast.

Bless the KX3 with its narrow filters which cut down some of the racket. About 1050z the static crashes started to fade a bit, though think many gave up after a while.

Ran 5W into a dipole strung up in the trees.

Still hammered away till the bitter end and had a good time.

Thanks to all whom contacted me, will be back next year for sure.

Cheers, Nick

Can't wait to get started in Harry Angel tonight. Seeing I'll be operating from my base Chapel - I'm sure there will be a little help from the Angel himself! :D

Well, that was a great little contest session!

Conditions were excellent from here in Singleton with few static crashes until right at the end. What I found really encouraging was the number of operators on both phone and CW.

Congratulations to all, but particularly to Dr Kevin - whose hard work now starts...just remember who your mates are, Kev...

Emdrc club station VK3ER had fun last night. A pair of F calls run our station with some guidance and help. Thanks to everyone we worked. (Lots of local suburban noise on our dipole made some contacts hard) the pizza for supper was good to.
