FYI this was the last summer you will see RMV in the CW beacon form.Past its use by date.

To this end I am attempting with difficulty to establishing a wspr beacon on 293 the RMV allocation.

RMV and RMH are in the way f wspr users.


I have a TS680S like Lloyd FP uses on VK4TVL.

I am waiting on an interface and RS232 module.

I thought I had internet access at Dundas but it has been firewalled so I haven't any way of getting a time sync unless someone can tell me how to do it on a shoestring using a prepaid mobile and I mean cheap.

the beacon could run 10 years, and as in past I have never nor will get financial assistance, and not asking for it, but I don't need a $500 a year account either.

so I am open to ideas.

On my Albany remote station I'm using iiNet 3G service (wholesale carrier is Optus).

I am on the 4GB/month broadband plan and as I'm already an iiNet customer, I get a $5/mth discount off the advertised price ($14.95/mth). No contract, month to month only.

If you are onlyuploading WSPR spots and time syncing, I'm guessing you would use that much data at all in a month, so maybe you could get by with 2GB/month and if you're a customer of iiNet or one of their subsidiaries, this will cost you $9.95/month.

With iiNet you also get a public IP, so you can remotely access your equipment at the remote end via the internet if required.

Equipment wise, I purchased a Dovado Tiny 3G/Wifi router and Sierra Wireless 320U Aircard 3G/4G USB dongle from Telco Antennas in Brisbane, which cost around $230.00 all up.

PS: VK3RMV on 6m has been appreciated. It's always the first frequency I tune to when on 6m and the most reliable signal heard. It's usually copiable at water level with either the 40cm ped mobile loop or end-fed wire.

I have used this C# project as a starting point in various things that needed to extract NMEA info, in this case time. It is not the most elegant solution but it is there.

I haven't used C# to write to the windows clock but that shouldn't be insurmountable.

You haven't said if you are running a computer to generate the WSPR, and what type.

There are ports of xntp to Linux and WIndows, and it contained an interface module for NMEA from a GPS decades ago. At the time, consumer GPS had terrible jitter on the NMEA output, but it would have been plenty good enough for the task you have in mind. I suspect the modern xntp daemon can read both NMEA sentences and PPS clock, and you can by a GPS module that delivers those for about $20 (I have some on my UAVs).

Certainly the easiest to get going in a Win7 environment. and quite stable here.
