Strange JT65 Observation

Post by VK5STU »

I was working some JT65 this evening when I notice what looks like a transmission that is..well ....backwards :? Normally the signal 'faces' the opposite way as per the others in the photo below.

Can anyone explain what is going on here? I could not decode the signal at all, despite it being a reply to my CQ at one stage. Perhaps his dipole is installed the wrong way around..

Interesting image

I suspect one of you had their transceiver switched to the wrong sideband (USB-LSB swapped over)

Possibly. I was having no trouble with QSO's before and after this so I doubt it was at my end.

Appears very definitely somebody on the wrong sideband. Especially considering its on 40m, where most rigs will default to LSB, itsan easy mistake to make.

That explains it then. I am surprised I have not seen it more often, given how simple it is to get it wrong.

Thanks, I can sleep better at night now :)
