Hi folks....
While things were a bit quiet on the RF propagation side of things I've taken the opportunity to enter all the Australian, New Zealand and close in Pacific island VOR information in the Early Warning database.
You'll need to select 108 to 144 MHz frequency range and then select all.
The updated mapping utility makes for an impressive distribution of these excellent 2mx Es MUF indicators.
It's been my experience that if you can hear them regardless of signal strength there's a very high probability of an Es path on 2mx. I merely listen for then in SSB mode, so as to hear a beat note. The modulated CW identification is usually below 30% (some are as low as 10%) which makes for difficulty copying.
These beacons are particularly useful if you live in an area that has frequency saturated FM broadcast stations.
Listening for them sure takes the guess work out of trying to work out if a 2mx Es path is available.

The Early Warnings page was originally designed with television carriers in mind, as seen with the ability to indicate the range between the lowest and highest reported carrier frequency.
As analogue television has closed down, we need to move on though.
(Although the lower/upper limit functionality is most likely redundant now, I will still keep it there, for now.)
As you have spent some time adding the VOR transmitters, I have reciprocated, and have just spent a few hours tweaking both the Mapping and Early Warnings pages.
I did have have other things planned for today, but!
The Early Warnings frequency and power search filters are now drop down select boxes, rather than radio selects.
This makes it look/behave the same as the Mapping page.
The broad 108 - 144 frequency selection has now been broken up into two bands; 108 - 118 VOR, and 118 - 144.
I have also added some extra Power levels to choose from:
0 - 100W
> 100W

I did take sometime collating all the data, some of the Pacific Island data was not so obvious.
The beauty I think of the VORs as an MUF/path indicator is they are so widely dispersed. It is amazing how often DX VORs are detected. I remember distinctly one late night (around 11.00 pm & long before the day of the VKlogger, in fact emails ) the Longreach VOR savagely strong for many hours but ......alas no one about!
