Logging Software for Mac (Newbie question)

Post by VK3ERW »

I have already visited viewtopic.php?f=24&t=463, but the thread is 6 years old and not specific to Operating Systems, so I'm reposting this subject again for more up-to-date answers.

As a brand new AR operator I'm somewhat confused by the many different logging options available and how they link with various verification & award certification systems methods. My concern is not so much for my benefit (at least not initially as I'm just getting to know the many facets of AR) but for me to be able to confirm contacts with the other station so they don't miss out on their verified log entry.

I'd appreciate a bit of guidance as to what popular logging software is available (free or paid) and what most people are using.
Although I'd prefer a native Mac application, if necessary, I can run Windoze under a virtual machine.

Many Thanks

Erwin

Hi Erwin

Your best bet is MacLoggerDX. From Dog Park Software, it is a good logging package there are a good number of VK hams my self included that use it. Download it and give it a try as it runs for 10min then times out before you have to buy a licence.

I have mac logger Dx. I tried some other programs. But this is the best for a full featured package.

My review / blog http://www.vk3bq.com/2013/07/13/maclogg ... -ipad-app/

Also a program called aether http://www.aetherlog.com/

But I got mac logger as it supported my base radio.

Also the mac logger author produces updates and improvements almost weekly. Has lots of ongoing development.

Hi Erwin
Ihave looked at Yealog, but it seems to lack a few features I was looking for.
Its a simple layout but I just wasn't convinced it was what I wanted.
I then looked at Aether, this I find for its price is quite good.
Using an older transceiver here at the moment so having date or control of the rig is not important to me, although Aether can do this if you want.
Mac Logger DX is probably the best of the bunch that I have tried so far but I think the price is somewhat steep, eel for me anyway.
Currently I can produce an ADIF file from Aether and then print my QSL cards with QSL Studio, works fine.
I have only found one problem so far, Aether will not, as yet, allow you to include "QSL VIA" information into the exported ADIF file, although discussions with its creator indicates this maybe included in a future update.
You can download Aether from the web site in a trial version or buy from there also as well as the APP Store.
Feel free to PM me if you wish for further info if needed.

I use Maclogger as well. The best part is the support provided by Don via the Yaho group. Someone asks a question and he responds almost immediately.
