September 19 marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of David Gordon Kirkpatrick* AO, MBE.

It seems like just yesterday that I worked a few gigs with the great man. Closer to 15 years in actual fact.

On Friday I guess I'll have a rum or two and listen to a couple of albums as a nod to him.

* You might know him as "Slim Dusty".

Thanks Colin, for drawing that to our attention. What a great man David Gordon (Slim) was, not forgetting Joy and the other family members. One of my treasures is a recording of some of his songs he made as a your lad at a Sydney DIY recording studio, long before he made When The Rain Tumbles Down in July. As a matter of interest, I wonder how many people know that the first radio broadcast by Smoky Dawson, was on the amateur station of Chris Rainbow VK3JR and that Tex Morton held a VK2 call; did anyone ever work him.

Time to raise a glass.

Thanks for the memories.

Might even get my wobbly boots on...
