Radios, fast bikes, Ferrari, Aston Martin, he's obviously got some cash!

Well you can't take it with you - spend it whilst you've got it!

... unless 'portable' is defined as body-carried in which case this 2kW ped mobile backpack station might be a contender!

Shoot me. His "portable station" looks even more complex than the temporary ATC we shipped over to Banda Aceh in 2004 after the Tsunami.

A good question, although he does say that inside the truck there is 'everything necessary to have a lot of fun'.

While it's great that the station can be driven to any spot and deliver better than home station mast height, antenna gain and power output it looks a hassle to set up for anything shorter than a 24 - 48 hour contest.

Particularly adding the elements on the beams and taking the rigs off the table so they don't slide around in transit.

Parkinson's law states that the more complex a portable station, the longer it takes to set up, the less you'll use it and the fewer contacts you'll make.

Horses for courses, but it strikes me as being better to spend as much as affordable on a prime QTH so there's no portable stuff to pack, transport and erect. Or at least one adjacent to accessible hills or beaches if a big block or acreage is beyond budget.
