low bands- swr/power meters

Post by VK3XDK »

Playing with my new transverter for 475khz, has encouraged me to try and Capacitively load my HF Delta loop.

On RX i'm getting a good peak so things are half way there?

Question is, has anybody tried "standard HF" swr meters on frequencies this low? Their typical specs are 1.8Mhz-30Mhz
I wonder if they're are usable down on 475khz? I dont expect the watt readings to be anywhere near accurate but they may give a good swr indication?

I havent got one here to try!

Hi

They should work OK but will need more power to get the full scale setting for the forward reading.

Graham,

A little op amp on the metering circuit will work wonders on any of the standard HF style SWR bridges, but make sure you use plenty of bypassing on the amp.

Ive bitten the bullet and built one!

ive used groups of 3, 3Watt 150R resistors so the meter should be able to handle 10Watts in short bursts.

I highly suggest this design, easy and works very well! (thanks to those who have supplied the design)
