West Gippsland 70cm repeaters coverage

Post by VK3TYG »

Hi all.
In a month or so I will be going to a place near Moe for 3 days.
Just wondering what 70cm repeaters are in range of the Moe area, I will be using a 5W handheld.
Would it be possible to access the Mt St Leonards RMU repeater ?

Cheers, Chris. VK3TYG

Should be able to hit VK3RGU on 438.3750 with 123Hz tone (IIRC?). Not much UHF coverage back into Melbourne from there though.

VK3RWG(?) Mt Baw Baw on 147.225 gives extremely good coverage back into parts of Melbourne and right across Gippsland, but activity can be fairly low.

To give an idea of what's around, don't forget about VK Logger's "Mapping" facility.

Sign into VK Logger, click Mapping on the main menu below, and select "Locate Repeaters" on the Mapping menu.

In your case, just enter "VK3" (without the quotes) into the callsign box, and select the band of interest.
Be aware of the "Last Status" filter.

As the map defaults to Australia-wide, you can zoom into your region of interest.

It doesn't show coverage, but provides a visual indication of where things are located.
