yeah i have tried the basic places radio parts Jaycar DSE all these places dont seem to sell as many bits and bobs that they use to lol

I just bought 8 from here. Arrived in 5 days.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, there are two types of these SO-239 sockets, one has a longer thread than the other, most PL-259 type antennas do not fit onto the short thread version all that well, they can come loose easily or the centre pin of the antenna does not contact the SO-239 socket very well.

Also, some have a threaded coax insert, while others have two solder holes.

I noticed that the "Imported" so239 sockets are the type that use a teflon insulator. Be very careful when screwing in your aerial as I have found if the center pin is a little tight the whole assembly will rotate and break off the soldered center connection .
The photo that Ross has provided shows the darker type insulator which is mechanically superior as the center connection is grooved and you wont have any problems with your connections.

The white imports are a softer material
Dark are lousy VHF insulators and lower power, so you should use teflon if running High Power.

The imports depending on Asia or USA IMO are different.
I think the JAs are metric and USA is UNF, some screw all way down and others bind up.
US and JA Type M are not really compatible as you find on JA tcvrs with US made connectors which have a longer centre pin.
In particular on BIRD TYPE M (aka PL259).

I have sadly thrown out all my US made fly leads with silicon and teflon I made in KL7 using US connectors from Amphenol. Especially long barrels.
They just wreck modern JA sockets as they dont screw all way down and the teeth dont connect.
Which considering the number of JA rigs in US is oddball.

VK4ICE sells those r/a adapters with a 5m length of RG58 ending in PL259. If you need to extend it just use a joiner and some amalgamating tape to keep it sealed
